The Information Technology (ITS) department at Charles River Associates is currently a team of more than 40 professionals dedicated to enhancing, maintaining, and developing the firm's technology infrastructure and security. The team is comprised of four functions:
- Service Delivery & Telecom
- Enterprise Application Solutions
- Infrastructure, Networking and Cloud Solutions
- Information Security
Information Technology staff are based in the Boston, Chicago, London, Munich, New York, Oakland, San Francisco, College Station and Washington, DC offices.
Mainly a Microsoft house, CRA is looking to maximize the performance of our on-premise systems and hybrid infrastructure, meaning experience with cloud technologies is essential for this role.
Job Overview
The System Administrator responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with installation, configuration, maintenance and support of infrastructure and systems in multiple datacenters across the globe
- Hands-on support and maintenance tasks
- Maintaining the integrity of data backup and archive processes
- Production support requests
- Maintaining security and integrity of the production and development environments, in accordance with Office and Security Policies
- Ensuring Disaster Recovery plans are kept up to date and tested
- Work includes on call rotation
Desired Qualifications
- At least 5 years demonstrable experience with detailed knowledge and understanding, including the implementation, configuration and troubleshooting of the following core technologies:
- VMware Data Centre Virtualization, ESXi, vSphere, vCenter etc
- Micro segmentation
- VMware Horizon / VDI
- MS Active Directory - Enterprise level
- Storage Technologies – Hybrid, Flash, Nimble, Pure
- MS Windows Servers 2016-2025
- PowerShell scripting
- Experience in Office 365 technologies (Exchange, Teams, SharePoint)
- Ability to create work instructions and processes for new and existing systems
- Experience supporting large/enterprise level infrastructures
- Knowledge of system hardware platforms including HP/Dell/Cisco
- Perform audits, peer reviews and due diligence as required.
- Possession of at least one professional certification is desirable
Work Location Flexibility

We currently ask that individuals spend 4 days a week on average working in the office (which may include traveling to another CRA office or to a client's location), with specific days determined in coordination with your practice or team. At certain times of the year (e.g. holiday periods), additional remote work options are offered to those whose work commitments permit it, although our offices remain open for those who choose or need to be there.

California requires CRA to include a good-faith estimate of the wage range for this role. This range is specific to individuals applying to work in our Oakland, CA office and considers several factors including but not limited to experience, education level, and expertise. A good-faith estimate of the base wage range for this role is $100,000 - $140,000; actual total compensation may also include benefits and bonus.
