STV is seeking a System Integration Engineer to join our Systems team in Bellevue, Washington. This position will support the planning, design, coordination, and integration of complex rail and transit systems, with a particular focus on the interfaces between civil infrastructure and rail systems.

The ideal candidate will bring experience working across multiple engineering disciplines and understand how individual systems come together within a larger transportation environment. The role will collaborate closely with civil, structural, track, electrical, and systems engineering teams to identify and manage technical interfaces throughout the design process.

Experience developing system designs, including plans, specifications, and estimates, in areas such as traction power, overhead contact systems (OCS), train control, or communications systems is highly preferred.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the integration and coordination of rail and transit systems with civil and infrastructure design.
  • Identify, define, document, and manage technical interfaces between systems, subsystems, and engineering disciplines.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design activities involving civil, track, structural, electrical, and rail systems disciplines.
  • Review engineering designs to identify interface requirements, conflicts, gaps, and potential integration risks.
  • Support development and review of plans, specifications, and estimates for rail systems projects.
  • Participate in system-level design reviews and interdisciplinary coordination meetings.
  • Assist in developing interface requirements, interface control documentation, design criteria, technical memoranda, and other systems engineering documentation.
  • Coordinate with engineers and technical specialists responsible for traction power, OCS, train control, communications, and other rail systems.
  • Support resolution of design interface issues throughout project development.
  • Assist project teams in maintaining consistency between system requirements and engineering design deliverables.
  • Support design integration activities through preliminary engineering, final design, and construction-phase services, as applicable.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers, engineering discipline leads, clients, and project stakeholders to support successful project delivery.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Relevant professional experience supporting the design, integration, or coordination of rail, transit, transportation, or other complex infrastructure systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with system interfaces and multidisciplinary design integration, particularly between civil infrastructure and rail systems.
  • Understanding of engineering design development, including plans, specifications, and estimates.
  • Experience coordinating across multiple engineering disciplines and resolving technical interface issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex technical relationships between systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly document technical requirements and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical interfaces, priorities, and project deliverables simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Rail or transit system design experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Traction Power Systems
    • Overhead Contact Systems (OCS)
    • Train Control and Signaling Systems
    • Communications Systems
  • Experience developing or reviewing design plans, technical specifications, and engineering estimates.
  • Experience with interface management, systems integration, systems engineering, or requirements management on multidisciplinary transportation projects.
  • Familiarity with the interaction between rail systems and civil elements such as track, structures, stations, utilities, and facilities.
  • Experience supporting large transit, commuter rail, light rail, or passenger rail infrastructure programs.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is a plus.

Why This Role

This position offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of rail systems engineering and infrastructure design, helping ensure that individual engineering disciplines function successfully as an integrated system. The System Integration Engineer will have exposure to multiple technical disciplines and play an important role in coordinating some of the most critical interfaces on complex rail and transit projects.
