Job Description
OVERVIEW
The System Engineer III / Tech Lead has oversight and responsibility for the planning, installation, maintenance, system backup, recovery and troubleshooting of Spring Venture Group’s Infrastructure, including network, servers, operating systems, applications, desktops, laptops, and related software.
This person would be working primarily remote, making occassional visits to the KC office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The essential duties for this role include, but are not limited to:
- Design, implement, manage, secure, and support network, server and storage hardware devices as well as server software and SAS applications.
- Design, implement, manage, and support user device management solutions
- Design, develop, test, and implement automated solutions using the appropriate scripting, coding standards, and best practices
- Manage relationships with key vendors and third party service providers to coordinate installations, upgrades, maintenance, and testing of infrastructure.
- Complete required system audits and security tasks, such as vulnerability mitigation associated with infrastructure within given SLA.
- Support office building physical servers, network, and wifi.
- Enhance and improve system monitoring and alerting capabilities as needed to verify the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, backups, and key services.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, reviewing system and applications logs, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues.
- Works independently on projects & matters of higher complexity and provides project leadership and oversight.
- Research and recommend innovative approaches for System Engineering tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
- Provide coaching, guidance, and peer review of changes for System Engineer I and II teammates.
- Participates in and/or leads in training and professional development sessions as applicable.
- Lead research efforts to identify technology solutions for enterprise projects related to servers, end user computing, user access, and networking as requested.
- Leads by example and helps hold the team accountable to consistent Agile processes and currency of agile tracking systems.
- Proactively communicates and collaborates w/ team, stakeholders, and tech department to share knowledge, champion ideas, and drive improvement action.
- Analyze and enhance company processes, procedures, and system standards. Produce associated documentation, knowledge base articles, and other resources related to System Engineering and the security of responsible systems.
- Track, follow up, and resolve all assigned incidents and assess system outages; Provide analysis to IT Leadership on opportunities for improvement and preventative action.
- Participate in on-call rotations and triage or resolve critical production issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or related field / 5+ yrs experience
- Ability to seek out and rapidly learn new technical skills
- Ability to think in an “investigative” manner, and troubleshoot technical errors or outages efficiently.
- A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategy and plans, taking into consideration risks and the appropriate mitigation
- Strong knowledge of implementing IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols
- System administration and related IT certifications are a plus
- Experience with the following:
- Account Management: Active Directory Utilities, Azure Active Directory
- Automated Installations: Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT), PDQ, GPO, Jamf;
- Cloud Computing Services: Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Drive Encryption: BitLocker
- Google Workspace: Google Admin
- IDP/SSO - Okta, MFA - Cisco Duo
- Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows Server 2022, Windows 10, 11 MAC OS
- Scripting: PowerShell, Bash, Z Shell
- Storage Management: Dell Compellent SAN, Dell EqualLogic SAN preferred
