Job Description:
Roles and Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain Sybase ASE & Sybase IQ
database instances, including installation, configuration, upgrades, and
patching across Linux/Unix platforms.
Perform Sybase & IQ database performance tuning, query
optimization, index management, and capacity planning to ensure optimal
throughput and minimal downtime.
Perform routine Sybase database maintenance activities like
housekeeping, reorgs, DBCC checks, index maintenance, statistics updates, and
space management.
Manage Sybase & IQ database privileges and security
configurations to enforce security best practices, including user/role
management, database encryption and auditing.
Hands-on experience in backup & recovery. Should
implement restore strategies using dump/load, replication, or backup server.
Maintain large-scale IQ databases with terabyte-level
storage and ensure optimal bulk loading performance using BCP, IQ load
utilities, or ETL tools.
Configure and support high-availability solutions such as
Sybase Replication Server, Warm Standby, MSA, Failover Clustering, and disaster
recovery strategies.
Automate database administrative tasks using
Shell/Perl/Python scripts.
Sybase IQ Data warehouse support reporting, BI workloads,
data analytics, and archival.
Should have knowledge on Sybase database migrations across
On-prem to cloud and cross-platform migrations.
Support production issues with on-call rotation and work
closely with developers, application and infrastructure teams.
Should have worked on Sybase outplace migrations with
replication server configuration.
Should have worked on Sybase database decommission with 10+
years of experience for a senior Sybase DBA role.
The candidate should have extensive hands-on experience in
delivering large-scale infrastructure/data center migration and
infrastructure/data center upgradation/modernization projects within the global
high availability banking /financial services environment.
Skills Required
- Extensive hands-on experience administering Sybase ASE and Sybase IQ databases
- Experience with Linux and Unix platforms
- Experience with database performance tuning, query optimization, index management, capacity planning, and maintenance
- Experience managing database privileges, roles, encryption, auditing, and security configurations
- Hands-on experience with backup and recovery using dump/load, replication, or Backup Server
- Experience supporting large-scale Sybase IQ databases with terabyte-level storage and bulk loading
- Experience with BCP, Sybase IQ load utilities, or ETL tools
- Experience configuring Sybase Replication Server, Warm Standby, MSA, failover clustering, and disaster recovery
- Ability to automate database administration using Shell, Perl, or Python scripts
- Experience supporting Sybase IQ data warehouses, reporting, business intelligence, analytics, and archival workloads
- Knowledge of on-premises-to-cloud and cross-platform Sybase database migrations
- Experience with Sybase outplace migrations and Replication Server configuration
- 10+ years of experience in a senior Sybase DBA role
- Experience delivering large-scale infrastructure or data center migration, upgrade, and modernization projects
- Experience working in global high-availability banking or financial services environments
- Availability for production support and on-call rotation
