Job Description

This position is responsible for maintaining the pits on the rig and, under direction from the Driller, Asst. Driller or Mud Engineer, will mix mud products that comprise the drilling fluid.

Essential Functions:

  • Load and unload mud products through the Sach Room/Mod Dock doors located in the Drilling Support Module.
  • Load and unload Vac trucks of fluid.
  • Monitor cuttings tank.
  • With direction from the Driller, Asst. Driller or Mud Engineer will mix mud products through the various hopper systems located in the DSM.
  • Maintain good housekeeping within the Pit Room and other rig operational locations.
  • Safely clean pits as needed or directed by the Driller, Assistant Driller or Mud Engineer.
  • Handle 55 gallon drums in a safe and efficient manner to add to drilling fluids.
  • Maintain and track fluids during drilling and tripping operations.
  • As directed, scrub, clean and paint various operational locations.
  • Participate in pre-tour safety meetings and weekly safety meetings.
  • Adhere to the Company’s HSE requirements with regards to the health and safety of personnel and safety to the environment.
  • Abide by Company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Ensure that personal behaviors and work practices are in line with Company safety standards.
  • Responsible for safety of self and others in the vicinity to include, but not limited to, employees, vendors and guests.
  • Provide visible leadership engagement, be aware of housekeeping and take additional safety precautions to ensure no one is put at risk.
  • Do not take short cuts or unnecessary risks and actively work with others to ensure they take due care and do not put themselves or others at risk.
  • Ensure all incidents are reported and appropriately investigated in accordance with Company procedure.
  • As needed, seek advice from HSE representative.

Qualifications

Necessary qualifications, skills and abilities:

  • A High School diploma is required.
  • Should have at least 2 years of work experience.
  • Must have good verbal communication skills and able to effectively communicate with staff, management, customers and vendors.
  • Must possess sound reasoning skills and have the ability to follow directions.

Additional qualifications, skills and abilities:

Successful completion of onboarding prerequisites:

  • Background screening, including a review of driving records.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Full clearance of a medical examination, which includes drug screening, physical assessment, and fitness for duty evaluation.

Physical demands and work environment:

  • Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Ability to work around moving machinery

  • Operate machinery and/or power tools.
  • Ability to walk on uneven ground (gravel, rocks, mounds, ice)
  • Wear personal protective equipment, including but not limited to hard hat, steel-toed safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, safety glasses, goggles and full body harness.
  • Frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel, carry, push/pull, reach, and use repetitive wrist and hand movements.
  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and/or ramps while carrying tools requiring a reasonable degree of physical stamina and agility and involving moderate to severe physical exertion
  • Operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions (Cold or Heat)
  • Ability to multitask, work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, reason logically, and make sound decisions.
