Job Objective:
Provide drilling engineering functions ensuring application of sound engineering principles and an understanding of latest technology while complying with all applicable State & Federal Oil & Gas Regulations. Develop drilling projects in conjunction with asset teams that are lowest cost possible that will recover intended reserves.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Develop well designs & accurate cost estimates from Asset Team well requirements.
- Coordinate and direct various Hilcorp support teams to plan, permit, and execute drilling projects.
- Conduct thorough offset well reviews, generate PPFG models when appropriate.
- Prepare and lead pre-spud meetings for drilling projects.
- Interface with contractors and regulatory agencies throughout all stages of drilling operations.
- Assesses the drilling, financial and Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) risks involved in company’s drilling operations.
- Develop detailed engineering drilling program for each drill well.
- Track performance and provide regular drilling project updates to management and asset team personnel.
- Identify and implement opportunities to optimize drilling performance.
- Travel to well site and meet with contract drilling foreman and other contractor personnel.
- Audit quality & completeness of required well reports.
- Provide rig site technical support during critical / non-standard operations.
- Evaluate and select Contractors to provide best-fit services and materials for drilling operations.
- Monitor Contractor cost & performance with goal to provide most cost-efficient operation. Ensure all contractor billing in line with estimates provided before the job.
- Ensure drilling operations comply with all applicable State & Federal regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:
- Five (5) years minimum drilling and workover engineering experience in oil and gas exploration and development operations.
- Ability to accurately solve problems and exceptional proficiency in data management.
- Ability to be available 24 hours per day (on call for questions, emergencies, etc.).
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the public.
- Self-starter with proven leadership skills, team player, and comfortable working under pressure.
- Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities.
- Working knowledge of daily drilling rig operations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with specific ability to translate technical information into clear & concise steps in a Well Program.
- Outstanding administrative and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in the use and application of the following software is required: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Previous experience with daily report software such as WellView, WellEz or DIMS is preferred.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year university or college with a degree in engineering, or closely related field.
