Your Team Responsibilities

We are looking to expand our Sustainability and Climate Specialists team in GAuS (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) with a new colleague bringing a strong background in the banking and/or insurance industry (based out of Frankfurt). MSCI is a leading provider of Sustainability and Climate data, models and tools to different financial markets participants globally. Successful candidates will have relevant experience working on a wide range of Sustainability and Climate topics (risk management, sustainability strategy, compliance, product creation, etc.) at Asset Managers, Pension Funds, Banks, Insurance companies or consultancies covering financial institutions. They also exhibit a passion for these issues.


To succeed in the role a specialist must have proven abilities to develop strong working relationships with external clients, learn MSCI Sustainability and Climate solutions and guide clients to better use those solutions in the context of each client specific requirements also leveraging other MSCI Analytics, Index or Private Capital solutions.


Specialists are adaptable, eager problem solvers, and able to lead cross-organization projects in highly diverse teams. Great communications skills are a must as they represent MSCI Sustainability and Climate to all levels of client management.

Your Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities cover a wide spectrum including proactive account management and client communication, account retention rates, contract value growth and pre-sales activities. In the pre-sales role, the Specialist partners with the sales team, bringing industry and product expertise to initial client meetings. After a client has begun using MSCI Sustainability and Climate solutions, the Specialist owns and manages the client experience. This entails offering proactive support, expertise on MSCI Sustainability and Climate solutions and market insights relevant to each client use case.


Specialists are also responsible of championing the responsible adoption of AI technologies to optimize client interactions, identify opportunities for innovation, and establish best practices that advance MSCI’s engagement with clients.

Key responsibilities include:

Sustainability and Climate Expertise Focus

  • Act as a trusted advisor for clients and their advocate within MSCI Sustainability and Climate Research
  • Serve as domain expert on MSCI Sustainability and Climate solutions and services
  • Leverage cutting edge MSCI solutions to deliver a holistic approach to clients’ Sustainability and Climate investing challenges
  • Adopt MSCI Sustainability and Climate and AI-enabled solutions to address banking and/or insurance use cases, including credit onboarding or ESG risk integration into risk management and ICAAP and/or ESG risk integration into underwriting business lines such as D&O, P&C or Corporate Specialty
  • Proactively communicate and educate clients on key Sustainability and Climate matters, providing subject matter expertise in pre-sales/up-sell/on-boarding activities
  • Build-up Sustainability and Climate industry expertise to guide clients in achieving their unique objectives
  • Partner internally with the product, research and development, technology and other functions in developing new solutions based on client feedback

Relationship Management Focus

  • Achieve target renewal rate, drive revenue growth with outstanding client engagement and service
  • Develop/drive account management plans for all clients; Monitor and ensure client satisfaction
  • Identify accounts at risk and create a plan to ensure revenue and client retention, working with cross-functional teams to address issues in a timely manner
  • Conduct regular calls/visits with clients (health checks, training, relationship planning and review), requiring some professional travel
  • Act as liaison between the clients and internal MSCI Sustainability and Climate Research teams for key client initiatives
  • Leads the integration of AI tools and analytics into client engagement strategies to enhance delivery efficiency, strengthen client relationships, and drive data-informed decision-making across the business
  • Take ownership for projects to help improve client service delivery and team efficiency
  • Develop trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across banks and/or insurance companies and leverage market knowledge and professional banking and/or insurance networks to identify emerging client needs.
Your skills and experience that will help you excel
  • 4-8 years of experience working on a wide range of Sustainability and Climate topics (risk management, sustainability strategy, compliance, product creation, etc.) at Banks, Insurance companies or consultancies advising these financial institutions
  • Good understanding of Sustainability and Climate and how Sustainability and Climate factors impact financial markets, loan books and/or insurances and underwriting
  • Knowledge and experience on how banks and/or insurance companies operate and function and on their most typical workflows integrating sustainability & climate data
  • Excellent organizational, presentation and communication skills and fluency in German and English is required
  • Innovative, motivated, client-oriented and commercially aware thinker
  • Demonstrated project management skills - define scope, resources and timelines and manage to deliverables
  • A team player able to effectively manage the expectations of a diverse and demanding client base
  • Absolute personal and business integrity
  • Specific Experience in Sustainable Finance regulation would be advantageous.
  • Fluent in English and German
  • MBA, CFA charter or master’s degree preferred
