Manage all efforts and resources in the Sawmill & Log Yard area directed toward providing a safe, quality production process for the Waren site. Responsible for all areas of production and maintenance for the sawmill facility. Create and maintain an atmosphere that will lend itself to continual improvement in all processes to meet the goals of being a low-cost producer.The salary range for this position is $99,825-$166,375.  The compensation range represents the low and high end of the base compensation range for this position.  Actual compensation will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.  This position is bonus eligible, with a target value of 15% of salary. Key ActivitiesOperational and Financial
  • Plan and schedule the detailed operations of green end production, maintenance and other areas as assigned.
  • Achieve and maintain budgeted production levels.
  • Control all mill operating costs while producing a quality product and achieving customer success. Analyze all department costs and lead cost reduction efforts.
  • Manage the activities of production personnel to ensure maintenance excellence is achieved and maintained so that all equipment is operating at a cost-effective, reliable performance level.
  • Capture downtime, lead corrective action and schedule preventative maintenance and housekeeping to improve equipment reliability.
  • Ensure adequate security and protection from hazards (fire etc.)
  • Participate in all strategic and operational business planning. Provide input on operational, production and capital budgets to Production Manager.
  • Identify projects for new technology or processes to improve recovery, uptime and productivity. Participate in the planning and implementation of all capital projects in assigned area.
Safety and Environmental
  • Maintain a safe facility and a work atmosphere conducive to promoting and encouraging safe working behaviors. Regularly audit supervisors’ performance in areas of training, audits and investigations.
  • Operate the assigned areas and capital projects in compliance with environmental regulations and other state/federal laws/regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Participate in and champion all safety activities including regular safety meetings, attending the plant wide safety team meetings and promoting near miss/hazard recognition reporting.
  • Assure all key controls under Sarbanes/Oxley (SOX) and other federal and state regulatory rules are followed and reported.
Leadership and Personnel
  • Provide leadership in the development of both hourly and salaried employees through training, coaching, and performance review feedback on all equipment and processes in area of responsibility. Encourage employee involvement, information sharing, problem solving, total quality and process improvement teams.
  • Provide development opportunities to plant supervisory and hourly personnel to develop the next generation of plant/business leaders. Identify and implement training opportunities.
  • Manage the activities of all assigned personnel to ensure that plant critical objectives are achieved using acceptable practices in compliance with all federal and state laws and bargained contract language when applicable. Maintain effective relationship with union.
  • Provide an atmosphere that leads to continual improvement in safety, quality and productivity.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required, Bachelors degree in engineering, business, forestry or related field preferred.
  • Five (5) years experience in lumber manufacturing in a supervisory role including technical knowledge of equipment operation (sawing, drying, planning), Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance and Quality Control.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Word, Excel, Lumber Track, Ultipro etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to motivate others.
  • Demonstrated ability to raise performance by building and maintaining positive relationships with all associates through coaching, development and instilling a continuous improvement mind-set.
  • Must be able to lead in a union environment.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills.

Skills Required

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, forestry, or a related field
  • Five years of experience in lumber manufacturing in a supervisory role
  • Technical knowledge of sawing, drying, planning, mechanical and electrical maintenance, and quality control
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Lumber Track, and UltiPro
