Job Description

Position Summary:

Rockwell Automation is building machine vision and visual inspection into the Automation Control Software portfolio, alongside Studio 5000 Logix Designer and FactoryTalk Optix. You will be the person who makes the physical system real - building and testing the camera, controller, and compute hardware before it ships, then going to the plant and commissioning it on a running line.

This role sits where software meets the factory floor. You will troubleshoot across code, controller, network, and optics, and you will often be the first person to see a failure mode nobody has seen before. This position involves regular travel to customer sites for deployment, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

You will work in an organization that applies agents to its own operating loop - triage, log analysis, summarization, and knowledge retrieval through MCP-connected systems - using GitHub Copilot Enterprise and Claude, and you will be expected to use and improve that tooling rather than route around it.

This role will have a remote schedule and will report to the Manager, Customer Support Engineering.

Your Responsibilities:

• Assemble, configure, and validate camera, controller, and edge compute hardware before shipment to customers.
• Deploy and commission inspection systems at customer sites, including optics, lighting, mounting, and controller integration.
• Design and fabricate custom mounting, lighting, or integration solutions when the standard configuration does not fit the application.
• Troubleshoot across software, controller, network, and physical layers, and drive issues to resolution.
• Collect and document sample and image data at customer sites to support model development.
• Feed field failure patterns back into product requirements, test coverage, and documentation.

The Essentials - You Will Have:

• Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Years of Relevant Work Experience
• Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

• Typically requires minimum of 1+ years of related experience in a technical support, field service, or systems integration environment.
• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline ands-on experience building, testing, or commissioning hardware systems
• Willingness to travel to customer manufacturing site
• Experience with industrial cameras, lighting, and optics selection for machine vision applications.
• Familiarity with PLCs and industrial networking - EtherNet/IP, OPC UA, or equivalent.
• Comfort on a Linux command line for configuration, log collection, and diagnostics.
• Experience working directly with customers in a manufacturing or plant environment.
• Fabrication or prototyping skill - basic machining, 3D printing, or panel build.

For this role, the Base Salary Compensation is 71,360-107,040.00 USD Annual with an annual target bonus of 5% of base salary. Our benefits for the US can be found here. Actual pay will be based on factors such as skills, knowledge, education, and experience.
