The 14Y After School Program engages hands, heads, and hearts for children in K-5th grade attending schools across the East Village. After School is a neurodiverse community, and all staff members are responsible for supporting neurodivergent and neurotypical students to have a successful after school day. 

We are seeking an Afterschool Support Coordinator who will oversee the 14th Street Y Afterschool Support & Inclusion Program.  The Support Coordinator will provide timely and equitable accommodations for after-schoolers with higher needs and their families.  This includes overseeing the Individualized Support Plans process and supporting Group Leaders and Teachers in inclusive best practices for their classroom.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

Pre-Afterschool Activities

  • Communicate with caregivers to develop and update Individualized Support Plans (ISPs) for after-schoolers enrolled in the Support & Inclusion Program 
  • Communicate with caregivers of any after-schooler to discuss any unanticipated areas of support or how to work through challenging behaviors/ situations
  • Meet with supervisor and After-School Program Manager daily to prepare for each afternoon and provide updates about after-schoolers' progress
  • Participate in Group Supervision with social work interns
  • Task manage responsibilities of the afternoon with social work interns 
  • Attend full-time Youth Programs meetings as needed

Afterschool Activities

  • Ensure ISPs are being implemented appropriately and effectively by Support Staff
  • Observe and check-in with Support Staff and individual after-schoolers as needed throughout the afternoon
  • Support After School Group Leaders & Teachers with school pick-ups, and subbing if the usual pick-up person is out
  • Ensure After School Group Leaders & Teachers are using inclusive best practices in their classrooms
  • Support all staff with addressing challenging after schooler behaviors and/or group dynamics & provide on-the-grounds coaching
  • Encourage elevation of any heightened after-schooler emotional or behavioral concerns; act as on-the-ground crisis management for reported concerns; report all elevated concerns to After School leadership team
  • Facilitate and support staff members in holding restorative conversations and circles
  • Proactively communicate with caregivers and handle elevated parent communications as needed
  • Assist After School Program Manager in leading staff meetings 


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Special Needs’ Education, or related field -and/or- demonstrated experience in comparable professional setting(s)
  • Experience in a supervisory capacity in a childcare setting, including camp environment with disabilities and higher needs children (e.g. Autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, OCD, etc.)
  • Knowledge and demonstrated competencies in best practices of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Microsoft Suite; ability to learn new systems quickly

Skills Required

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Special Needs Education, or related field, or demonstrated equivalent professional experience
