SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGER

Position Summary

The Supply Chain Manager is responsible for leading the organization’s purchasing, inventory control, picking/receiving and shipping functions within a mid-size manufacturing environment. This role oversees the day-to-day execution and strategic direction of material flow operations to ensure customer demand, production schedules, and operational objectives are supported efficiently and effectively.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Supply Chain & Materials Management

  1. Lead and oversee purchasing, inventory control, picking, receiving, and shipping operations across the organization.
  2. Ensure materials, components, and supplies are available to support manufacturing schedules and customer demand.
  3. Monitor inventory health, material flow, shortages, and replenishment activities to minimize operational disruption.
  4. Drive inventory optimization efforts balancing customer service, production support, inventory turns, and cash flow objectives.
  5. Oversee inventory accuracy initiatives including cycle counting, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and process standardization.
  6. Ensure warehouse layouts, material storage methods, and inventory locations support efficient operational workflow.

Purchasing & Supplier Coordination

  1. Provide leadership and direction to Buyers responsible for procurement of production and indirect materials.
  2. Support supplier performance management related to delivery, responsiveness, quality, and service expectations.
  3. Partner with sourcing and operational leadership regarding supplier risks, shortages, and material constraints while maintaining separation from direct sourcing ownership responsibilities.
  4. Monitor purchasing activities to ensure alignment with MRP signals, production schedules, and inventory strategies.
  5. Support cost improvement initiatives through inventory management, process efficiency, and operational coordination.

Shipping, Receiving & Logistics Oversight

  1. Oversee shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations to ensure timely, accurate, and efficient movement of materials and finished goods.
  2. Ensure customer shipments are completed accurately and on schedule while maintaining operational efficiency and service expectations.
  3. Support freight and transportation coordination efforts to balance service levels and transportation costs.
  4. Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to warehouse efficiency, picking accuracy, receiving processes, and shipping execution.
  5. Monitor operational KPIs related to shipping performance, inventory accuracy, receiving efficiency, and material availability.

Leadership & Team Development

  1. Lead, coach, and develop supply chain supervisors, inventory control personnel, buyers, shipping leadership, and warehouse teams.
  2. Establish performance expectations, accountability standards, and measurable departmental objectives.
  3. Support employee development, succession planning, cross-training, and leadership growth initiatives.
  4. Assist with staffing, onboarding, performance management, disciplinary actions, and employee relations matters.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  1. Partner closely with Production, Scheduling, Engineering, Quality, Accounting, and Operations leadership to support overall business objectives.
  2. Communicate operational risks, shortages, inventory concerns, and logistics constraints proactively to leadership teams.
  3. Support new product introductions, engineering changes, and operational transitions through effective supply chain coordination.

Continuous Improvement & Compliance

  1. Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on inventory management, workflow efficiency, process standardization, and operational scalability.
  2. Utilize ERP/MRP systems and operational reporting to analyze trends, identify gaps, and implement corrective actions.
  3. Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, inventory procedures, and operational controls.
  4. Maintain accurate inventory, purchasing, and logistics data within ERP systems and reporting tools.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5–8 years of progressive supply chain, materials management, logistics, or inventory leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Prior leadership experience overseeing purchasing, warehouse, inventory control, or shipping operations required.
  • Experience in metal fabrication, industrial manufacturing, or make-to-order manufacturing environments preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of inventory control, purchasing, warehouse operations, logistics, and manufacturing material flow.
  • Strong leadership and team development capabilities.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
  • Experience utilizing ERP/MRP systems, inventory management tools, and KPI reporting.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong process improvement and operational optimization mindset.

Skills Required
