Building the machines that build everything.
The Role
Lead development and execution of supplier quality systems for novel micromanufacturing. Build and manage a supplier quality engineering team, establish IQA/OQA/inspection and audit processes, drive RCCA/FMEA/8D efforts, implement KPIs and dashboards, support supplier qualification and continuous improvement from R&D through volume manufacturing, and interface with customers on quality issues.
Summary Generated by Built In
Atomic Machines is ushering in a new era of micromanufacturing with its Matter Compiler™ technology platform. This platform enables new classes of micromachines to be designed and built by providing manufacturing processes and a materials library that are inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. It unlocks MEMS manufacturing not only for device classes that could never be produced by semiconductor methods, but also for entirely new categories. Furthermore, this digital platform is fully programmable in the way 3D printing is digital—but whereas 3D printing produces parts of a single material using a single process, the Matter Compiler™ technology platform is a multi-process, multi-material system: bits and raw materials go in, and complete, functional micromachines come out. The Atomic Machines team has also created an exciting first device—made possible only through the Matter Compiler™ technology platform—that we will be unveiling to the world soon.

Our offices are in Emeryville and Santa Clara, California.
About The Role:

We are looking for a Supplier Quality Manager to lead the development and execution of world-class supplier quality processes for a new class of manufacturing. The Matter Compiler™ platform is the first of its kind and introduces unique quality challenges that require strong fundamentals, systems thinking, and the ability to build scalable processes from the ground up.

This is a highly visible role that is critical to the success of Atomic Machine's vision. The successful candidate will bring a deep understanding of supplier quality principles and will work cross-functionally to co-create the supplier quality strategy. They will be responsible for establishing and driving robust supplier quality processes that ensure consistent product performance, manufacturability, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction throughout the supplier lifecycle.

In this role, you will partner closely with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and external suppliers to identify and mitigate risk, drive continuous improvement, and enable rapid development while maintaining high quality standards. The ideal candidate is both hands-on and strategic, comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment, and motivated by the opportunity to define quality for a new manufacturing paradigm.

What You’ll Do:
  • Develop and implement the company's IQA, supplier tracking, and other processes, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 and other relevant certifications.
  • Hire, manage, and develop a Supplier Quality Engineering team
  • Assist in defining the quality vision, objectives, roadmap, and metrics, aligning them with business goals.
  • Ensure IQA, OQA, and customer expectations are aligned.
  • Champion "Quality at the Source" in manufacturing, designing processes to minimize rework, escapes, and variation.
  • Build systems to monitor yield, scrap, and rework trends, and lead improvement initiatives.
  • Establish processes for incoming and outgoing inspection and test, and oversee the management of non-conforming materials.
  • Perform audits of supplier facilities to ensure consistent operations and adherence to quality standards.
  • Engage on customer quality concerns, leading structured issue resolution (e.g., 8D, RCA, FMEA).
  • Drive customer complaint resolution processes, product recall decision-making, and communication protocols.
  • Interface with customers directly, presenting RCCA
  • Establish and maintain quality KPIs/dashboards across suppliers (e.g., yield, DPPM, escapes, audit findings, reliability).
  • Set up regular quality reviews with cross-functional teams to provide transparency into trends, risks, and mitigation plans.
  • Build and manage internal audit and continuous improvement programs.
  • Track recurring issues, perform root cause analysis, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Develop and implement a feedback mechanism from manufacturing to the suppliers.
  • Collaborate with Operations teams to establish and monitor performance metrics, ensuring that actions are taken to improve performance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, product, and customer service teams to embed quality discipline.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Participate in design reviews at each project milestone and act as a required approver for all design gates.
What You’ll Need:
  • 6-10+ years in progressive quality roles, with experience leading teams of 2 or more for 2+ years.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the development, deployment, and scaling of Supplier Quality Management System frameworks preferably in a ISO 9001 environment,
  • Deep experience with Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) methodologies, including FMEA, 8D, 5 Whys, fishbone/Ishikawa diagrams, and statistical tools for failure analysis and prevention, with a particular focus on sustaining corrective actions and driving them back to the source.
  • Proven success in establishing quality processes that scale from Research and Development (R&D) and New Product Introduction (NPI) through volume manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience with supplier qualification, audits, incoming inspection protocols, Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and supplier scorecard systems.
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles and their impact on quality, manufacturability, and yield at scale.
  • Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems; adept at driving closed-loop quality feedback into engineering and operations.
  • Strong execution skills and the ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and customer support.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with strong emphasis on documentation quality and the ability to drive clear reporting of quality metrics and decisions.
  • Creative, autonomous, and resilient in ambiguous situations; demonstrates strong initiative and the ability to deliver tangible progress amid change.
  • A first-principles mindset—questioning assumptions, reframing problems from the ground up, and approaching challenges with foundational understanding rather than relying solely on precedent.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field is required; Master's degree is preferred.

The compensation for this position also includes equity and benefits.

What We Do

Atomic Machines is redefining humanity’s relationship with matter. We see a future where our tools will allow us to reorganize matter at the atomic level at will, where we will go from bits to atoms for any object or machine that can be designed in alignment with physical laws. We have begun our journey with the development of a robotic manufacturing platform capable of making an entirely new class of micro-electromechanical (MEMS) devices. We are well funded and have exceptionally strong product/market fit and a clear go-to-market path for the device we will make first with our platform. Our platform breaks traditional manufacturing paradigms and constraints, enabling inexpensive rapid prototyping as well as large scale manufacturing with highly compelling economics. Joining forces with us means becoming part of an incredibly talented, inventive and passionate multi-disciplinary team working on a massive world-changing mission. You will have the opportunity to help define the company from its early days. You’ll be challenged to learn and grow as a builder and a leader as the company itself grows rapidly. And you will receive significant equity compensation - you’ll truly be a company owner and benefit financially from our overall success.
