The Role:
The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) - RESS Enclosures will be the technical liaison between GM purchasing, product engineering, manufacturing, and our supply base. In this role, the Supplier Quality Engineer will work with suppliers to resolve manufacturing and quality issues related to RESS components, implement and monitor advanced quality planning systems, and provide technical support throughout the lifecycle of RESS Enclosures commodities and components. The role will focus on ensuring robust supplier process control, internal and external integrity, manufacturability, and launch readiness for RESS Enclosures products.
What You'll Do:
Assure supplier understanding and compliance with APQP processes and product PPAP submission and approval requirements for RESS Enclosures components.
Review and approve supplier quality plans, including Control Plans and PFMEAs, for new RESS Enclosures components and assemblies for vehicle launch.
Review supplier manufacturing processes, process controls, and quality systems with emphasis on RESS Enclosures process capability and defect prevention.
Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions for supplier quality issues related to defects, dimensional variation, and downstream manufacturing impact.
Perform on-site supplier visits for root cause analysis, verification of corrective actions, process reviews, and launch readiness assessments.
Implement and monitor supplier part qualification and certification processes including PPAP and Run at Rate.
Improve supplier quality performance by conducting on-site workshops, providing technical assistance to develop robust quality systems, and driving systemic corrective actions.
Provide technical assistance during supplier launch, change-over, and ongoing production activities for RESS Enclosures products.
Assess supplier capability in gating, venting, solidification control, tooling condition, melt management, and process parameter control to ensure stable performance.
Evaluate supplier controls for internal integrity and external integrity, including radiographic inspection, fluorescent dye penetrant inspection, and reaction plans for -related defects.
Support review of traceability, heat treatment controls, machining interface risk, and process changes affecting RESS component quality.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree is required. Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Manufacturing, Welding, Plastics, Materials, Chemical preferred) or an equivalent Technical Degree such as Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics is acceptable.
Minimum 5 years' experience in quality, engineering and/or manufacturing.
Strong hands-on experience with manufacturing processes.
Ability to review supplier controls for special characteristics, process capability, inspection strategy, and reaction plans.
Proficient in print reading and interpretation, part measurement, gage design and function.
Proficient knowledge of geometric design and tolerancing (GD&T).
Proficient knowledge of manufacturing and assembly plant processes, procedures, tooling, equipment, and facilities.
Demonstrated knowledge of probability, statistical quality control and design of experiments.
Proficient ability to investigate quality problems and apply sound technical judgment to develop potential solutions.
Proficient ability to manage multiple projects and lead diverse cross-functional teams simultaneously.
High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others.
Strong oral, written, and presentation skills.
Ability to travel up to 50% (domestic).
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred)
Master's degree in Business or Engineering is a plus.
Technical and Quality Certifications are a plus.
3+ years' OEM or Tier 1 experience in automotive quality, manufacturing, or engineering functions, including demonstrated experience and capability in any of the following areas:
Statistical Problem Solving (Red X, DFSS, DMAIC)
Product Engineering
Lean Manufacturing and/or Manufacturing Quality
Manufacturing, Process, and/or Tool Engineering
Quality Systems Planning (APQP), including PPAP
Prior experience supporting suppliers or RESS component launch/production quality is strongly preferred.
