Position summary
The Senior Supplier Quality and Development Engineer leads supplier quality and development initiatives across the global supply base for Corporate Supplier Quality and Development in India. This role supports sourcing and supply chain optimization projects by applying quality engineering expertise to improve supplier performance, reduce risk, and meet business goals.
The position evaluates supplier capability, capacity, stability, and risk, while driving continuous improvement through standardized processes, supplier development, and advanced problem-solving tools. The role also provides technical leadership, mentoring, and support to internal teams and suppliers, and reports to the Mexico Manager of Supplier Quality and Development.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct supplier assessments for current and potential suppliers, identify risks, and drive corrective actions and development plans
- Monitor supplier performance metrics and scorecards, and lead improvement plans to meet quality, safety, and delivery expectations
- Lead supplier quality activities including capacity assessments, APQP, PPAP, corrective and preventive actions, and process improvement initiatives
- Partner with internal stakeholders and suppliers on technical quality issues, sourcing projects, and supply chain optimization efforts
- Mentor plant quality staff, supplier quality engineers, and suppliers on quality systems, best practices, and problem-solving tools
- Support issue resolution, standardize quality processes, and drive continuous improvement across the supply chain
- Perform other duties as assigned
Professional experience/qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, materials, industrial, or manufacturing engineering with 10+ years of supplier quality and/or quality assurance experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment; advanced degree preferred.
- Experience in manufacturing processes such as casting, machining, forgings, metallurgy, heat treatment, electronics, plastics, or coatings.
- Strong knowledge of quality tools and methodologies including Six Sigma, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, root cause analysis, and statistical problem-solving.
- Experience with supplier audits, quality management systems, ISO 9001, TS16949, AIAG CQI audits, metrology, inspection, and new product development.
- Strong analytical, project management, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to lead teams and influence stakeholders in a matrix environment.
- Proficient in MS Office, ERP systems, and lean manufacturing tools; quality or engineering certifications are preferred.
- Domestic travel required, with 50%+ travel expected.
