Company Overview

This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.

Job Summary 

Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Supervisor, Welding Operations to manage fabrication and welding operations to build prototypes, test equipment and manufacture high quality parts. In this role, you will contribute to manufacturing and technology development programs for the Kairos Power’s FHR.

Responsibilities 

  • Directly supervise the daily activities of  welders, weld helpers, and assembly personnel
  • Hire, train, develop, mentor, and inspire a team of shop employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints, and resolve problems
  • Partner with engineering team and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) to ensure designs are easy and cost effective to manufacture. This includes drawing reviews, actively engaging in design reviews, providing proper GD&T requirements, guidance on weld callouts, etc.
  • Apply knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling and materials to identify, select and install manual and automated welding equipment to deliver on internal manufacturing needs
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing Planners on work order planning including estimates of welding and staffing times and ensure work instructions will result in high-quality and desired end product
  • Assist team in set-ups, fixturing, and welding of parts when necessary to meet internal deadlines or quality requirements
  • Work with environmental, health and safety teams to develop safety programs and processes to ensure the safety of personnel
  • Drive team building and cross-functional collaboration across multiple teams for daily operational objectives
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities in both process and people-oriented activities
  • Support quality welding practices to adhere to welding codes such as D1.1, ASME Section VIII, B31.3, etc.
  • Lead diversity initiatives and promote inclusive values across shop operations
  • Provide continuous feedback and personnel development plans for all team members
  • Assist in developing and communicating shop objectives and plans
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in managing weld prototyping, assembly and/or manufacturing teams.
  • Expert in welding processes including GMAW, GTAW, and machine-assisted welding technologies
  • Expert in reading and interpreting engineering and assembly drawings
  • Expert in GD&T
  • Proficient in 3D modeling, Solidworks preferred
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers to perform daily work
  • Strong demonstrated experience in managing growing teams and development of other leaders and individual contributors
  • Experience with fabrication and weldingFamiliar with welding of steel alloys and aluminum for piping, tubing, and pressure vessels
  • Experience working with ASME Section VIII codeProven team player with excellent verbal, written communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges and issues

Physical Conditions

  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, scissor lifts, articulated boom lifts and the like
  • Setting up and transferring temporary structures (e.g., scaffolding, ladders)
  • Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Adjusting, moving, transporting, installing, positioning, or removing objects up to 50 pounds in all directions
  • Communicating with others to exchange information
  • Operating motor vehicles, heavy equipment, or machinery
  • Use hand tools
  • Repetitive assembly operations of manufacturing test fixtures and test setups in collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams

  • Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes

Certification

  • Capable of obtaining forklift and boom lift certification

  • Occasionally requires schedule flexibility 
  • Occasionally requires non-standard work-week hours
  • Occasionally requires extended hours to support launch and critical project timelines
