JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Tasks that are this position controls or is responsible for:

  • Supervises all daily activities of Tool & Die Makers / Apprentices.
  • Participates in the training of Tool & Die Apprentices.
  • Designs / constructs / improves / maintains tooling / fixtures / equipment as required.
  • Ensures quality standards of the Tool Room Department are maintained.
  • Coordinates the Tool Room for the repair of tooling or equipment, as required to ensure the most efficient flow of production with the least possible downtime.
  • Coordinates activities of outside suppliers and contractors (new tooling, wire cutting, heat-treat, etc.)
  • Maintains purchased and consumable items inventory.
  • Organizes / maintains / improves daily / weekly Preventative Maintenance Program for all Dies.
  • Acts as liaison between Tool Room and Quality/Engineering Departments.
  • Orders equipment necessary to build dies / fixtures, etc. ensuring the best possible price is secured from approved sources.
  • Observes all Federal/Provincial Regulations including standards for safe working conditions as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act as well as Policies and Procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Participates in Continuous Improvement / Suggestion Programs.
  • Attends scheduled trainings / meetings and bringing forward any questions at that time or to his/her Manager / Designee.
  • Performs other assignments as requested by management from time to time as well as making Manager / Designee aware of problems/slowdown in work area.
  • Perform all Supervisory duties in a safe manner in accordance with Section 27 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Industrial Establishment.

Definitions:

“Supervisor” means a person who has charge of a workplace or authority over a work. “Competent person” means a person who,

Duties of supervisor

  • (1) A supervisor shall ensure that a worker,

(a) works in the manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by this Act and the regulations; and

(b) uses or wears the equipment, protective devices or clothing that the worker’s employer requires to be used or worn.

Additional duties of supervisor

(2) Without limiting the duty imposed by subsection (1), a supervisor shall,

(a) advise a worker of the existence of any potential or actual danger to the health or safety of the worker of which the supervisor is aware;

(b) where so prescribed, provide a worker with written instructions as to the measures and procedures to be taken for protection of the worker; and

(c) take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of a worker.  R.S.O. 1990, c. O.1, s. 27.

  • Perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with Section 28 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Industrial Establishments.

Definitions:

“Worker” means a person who performs work or supplies services for monetary compensation but does not include an inmate of a correctional institution or like institution or facility who participate inside the institution or facility in a work project or rehabilitation program.

Duties of workers

  • (1) A worker shall,

(a) work in compliance with the provisions of this Act and the regulations;

(b) use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that the worker’s employer requires to be used or worn;

(c) report to his or her employer or supervisor the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective device of which the worker is aware and which may endanger himself, herself or another worker; and

(d) report to his or her employer or supervisor any contravention of this Act or the regulations or the existence of any hazard of which he or she knows.

(2) No worker shall,

(a) remove or make ineffective any protective device required by the regulations or by his or her employer, without providing an adequate temporary protective device and when the need for removing or making ineffective the protective device has ceased, the protective device shall be replaced immediately;

(b) use or operate any equipment, machine, device or thing or work in a manner that may endanger himself, herself or any other worker; or

(c) engage in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct.

Consent to medical surveillance

(3) A worker is not required to participate in a prescribed medical surveillance program unless the worker consents to do so.  R.S.O. 1990, c. O.1, s. 28.

 Other Tasks:

  • Continuously adhere to and apply the Magna Employee’s Charter, the Magna Corporate Constitution, and the Magna Operational Principles in all aspects of position and interaction with others.
  • Effective use of MDV’s Escalation Process.
  • Compliance to IATF customer requirements
  • Attends all scheduled meetings and training.
  • Understands and follows established rules, procedures and policies relating to position.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by observing safe work practices and by following all safety policies and procedures.
  • Other duties that may be assigned.

SALARY RANGE: $95,00.00-$115,000.00

EDUCATION:

  • Successful completion of a recognized Tool and Die apprenticeship and 10 plus years of related experience
  • Experience reading and interpreting detailed information from blueprints and drawings
  • Must have Toolbox/Tools to carry out Tool and Die tasks
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all equipment and tools related to trade
  • General forklift and overhead crane experience
  • Thorough technical understanding of Stamping and Assembly equipment is required
  • Working knowledge of all measuring equipment
  • Familiar with various steel products, oils/lubricants
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment which includes stamping and assembly.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project) and general computer applications
  • Good command of the English language both verbal, written and the ability to communicate to the customer.
