Purpose of the Position: As a supervisor, the incumbent in this position oversees the day-to-day operations of a group of employees. This includes training and developing staff, assigning work, as well as interpreting and ensuring the consistent application of organizational policies. He/she possesses and applies knowledge of the principals, practices and procedures of a particular field of specialization. The Supervisor may initiate and communicate a variety of personnel actions, including disciplinary action and the scheduling and approving of overtime. Direct communication with the Manager on the team direction and focus.
ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:
• Career development of team through scheduled coaching sessions with individual staff every other week.
• Provide real time feedback.coaching
• Perform staff GSD and review throughout the year on progress
• Key resource for assisting the team in developing processes for transparency
• Understanding the team's overall performance.
• Makes certain that all department and functional training requirements have been fulfilled
• Ensures consistent application of Hapaga-Lloyd policies to all personnel actions
• Update and maintain TRS for respective team
• Maintain individual account responsibilities while being a lead for a small sized team
• Sales and performance coaching using SF and QlikView to address volume development and areas of focus
• Provides training for staff on new systems, regulations and requirements as governed by the Federal
Maritime Commission (FMC)
Job Specification (knowledge, skills and abilities normally required for competent performance in the job):
• Understands most shipping terms; can use a dictionary to find terms not recognized. Is willing to clarify shipping terms unique to a location. Understands routings, schedules and general practices of various countries, carriers, ports and terminals.
• Understands what Hapag-Lloyd offers customers and what routes, equipment, rates and services are available.
Uses maps, atlases and other geographic reference materials.Knows wehre nearest ports and terminals are to customers or can use references to find that information. Knows best mode of transportation for ground transport between customer and terminals.
• Uses word processing software efficiently and effectively. Uses spreadsheet software as a tool for tracking work. Uses other software appropriate to work demands and effectively applies other components of MSOffice required by the job.
• Uses questioning to identify the specific problems and related information. Logically determines approach to solving the immediate problem.
• Proficient in using key systems such as FIS, Sales Force and Qlikview
• Proactive drive to help ensure teams sales targets and meeting candence are being meet / exceeded
• Analytical approach to help identify route causes and implantation solutions to increase efficiencies
• Collaborative, engaging the team and cross functional stakeholders to improve the customer experience
Supervisory Responsibility:
Generally responsible for managing employees within the Sales Commercial Department.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates Degree 2 years of experience in the Maritime Industry or the equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
