SUMMARY:

  • Supervises shift operations and coordinates lab and maintenance services to accomplish a quality product on a cost-effective basis. Perform the primary thinking encompassed by this job description.

  • Fully support Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on project teams.
  • PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervises and coordinates operators, lab technicians and maintenance personnel to meet standard operating procedures and production schedules to produce premium quality product.
  • Serves as acting supervisor to lab technicians, maintenance craftsmen, etc. during nights and weekend hours.
  • Coordinates day/night orders and special instructions from the production day supervisor and disperses oral and written instructions to maintain shift continuity.
  • Consults with operators on general operating problems and reviews the level of accuracy and degree to which assigned duties are performed. Coordinates production and maintenance to accomplish the upkeep and repairs to equipment including initiation of necessary work orders.
  • Maintains records, logs and forms that pertain to equipment and personnel.
  • Monitors plant operations to comply with local, State and Federal environmental regulations.
  • Recognizes safety problems and implements safety procedures and training to achieve safe operations and coordinate efforts with Safety Department.
  • Conducts necessary training to achieve improved production levels.
  • Makes emergency decisions concerning the shutdown of major equipment to prevent damage.
  • Participates in periodic informational and staff meetings.
  • Monitors product quality and coordinates cleaning and calibrating of test equipment with quality control personnel.
  • Communicates with other units concerning feedstock and consumables.
  • Procures necessary parts and supplies and expedites purchases for emergency projects.
  • Recommends equipment and personnel performance level improvements.
  • Performs special projects as assigned and other coordinating activities as required to provide cost-effective operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

College graduate preferred.  Five years progressive operating experience to include knowledge and skills related to operating functions within a chemical plant facility. Understanding of equipment care and handling, equipment applications, safety and environmental policies and procedural consequence and process relations.
