Primary Function
The Production Supervisor plays an important role in leading the day-to-day operations within our Toronto Plant. The position leads and directs the daily activities of a unionized workforce, ensuring key performance indicators for safety, quality, efficiency, and productivity are achieved while driving continuous operational improvement. The successful candidate will build positive working relationships, maintain clear communication, and address operational or employee issues as required.
Responsibilities
· Directly manage the day-to-day workforce, including staffing and work assignments, scheduling, attendance, employee conduct, performance, and the consistent application of workplace policies and the collective agreement.
· Lead and coordinate activities within the assigned production area to meet safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost targets.
· Ensure work is performed safely, hazards are identified and controlled, and employees use all required personal protective equipment.
· Promote a positive labour-management relationship through coaching, communication, teamwork, and employee involvement.
· Coordinate with other departments to maximise the overall effectiveness and efficiency of production operations.
· Plan proactively and adjust to changing priorities or unforeseen situations while meeting operational requirements.
· Deliver effective training, coaching, attendance management, and performance management for production employees.
· Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives, identify potential savings, and assist with implementation.
· Monitor and report established KPIs, daily results, and improvement actions.
Qualifications
· A minimum of three years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within a unionized operation.
· A university degree or college diploma in a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
· Strong leadership, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to deliver results through people.
· Good computer skills, including working knowledge of factory systems and Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
· Experience in a just-in-time environment and the ability to respond proactively to changing demands with short notice.
· Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, Kaizen, or other continuous improvement methods is an asset.
