POSITION SUMMARY

This position is directly responsible for the daily performance of the Shipping, providing leadership for processes and activities that impact the accuracy of approximately 75,000 pallets shipped per year and over $275,000,000 in sales.   Responsibilities include managing two lead personnel and an additional staff of approximately 15 people.  Monitors and controls outbound shipments to customers and other distribution centers, including carrier performance, adherence to governmental regulations and carrier requirements. 

The quality, effectiveness of our shipments and how NDC communicates to its customers is paramount and this position is critical as it controls the last phase of the customer experience provided by NDC.    Additional responsibilities include assisting the Vice President of Distribution Operations with carrier selection and negotiations, LEAN processing including 5S and interfacing with customers concerning carrier performance.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide management of the daily outbound activities within all NDC Distribution Centers and any contract storage facilities that may be used to house excess inventory, including management of two first-line warehouse leads and approximately 14 full time employees.  Responsibilities to include process work flow, overall departmental productivity, as well as employee morale.
  • Monitor shipping transactions and suggest changes that reduce inventory damage and shrinkage.  Set up process rules in the TMS and WMS to help ensure proper flow of shipments. 
  • Perform administrative functions for these areas to include the coordination of component special requests, payroll reconciliation, hiring and other personnel decisions.
  • Create, modify, and execute various reports from various sources including, TMS, WMS, ERP, and Sales Cube or other data mining tools to monitor inventory movement and capacity to ensure effective slotting is being achieved and inventory issues are being corrected.
  • Work directly with various departments including Purchasing, Information Technology and Customer Service sections to research and resolve inventory variations between systems, carriers and customer inquiries.
  • Proactively manage employee relations.  This includes meetings, feedback sessions and initiating problem solving as needed.
  • Provide a safe work environment that includes daily monitoring of employee activities, providing constructive feedback and weekly safety training events.
  • Assist the Vice President of Operations in carrier selection and contract negotiations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education:  

  • B.S. degree Distribution/Transportation/Logistics preferred.  MBA strongly desired. 
  • HAZMAT training or certification desired.

Experience:

  • 5 years direct job related experience.
  • Extensive training and demonstrated experience in distribution, transportation, management or related field

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Personal Computer/System literacy is required as well as proficiency with distribution software including Microsoft Office, Google Docs, WMS, TMS, ERP data warehousing tools such as Sales Cube, COGNOS, or Business Objects.
  • Background in LEAN processing, continuous improvement and or 5S is required.
  • Strong skills in planning, analysis, organizing and team building. 
  • Excellent people skills, motivational ability and a positive attitude are key to success. 
  • Ability to proactively solve problems is critical.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS

This position has the following physical requirements: repetitive lifting up to 50 pounds, with a range from a floor level to above shoulder height; walking and or standing on concrete floors for a period of up to two hours; pushing and pulling rolling carts or pallet jacks bearing loads of up to 500 pounds; free range of motion including twisting, bending, stooping, including climbing on step ladders

Skills Required

  • Five years of directly related experience
  • Extensive experience in distribution, transportation, management, or a related field
  • Personal computer and system literacy

  • Background in LEAN processing, continuous improvement, and/or 5S
