This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the organization’s fleet of on-board communications and related Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment, as well as troubleshooting and repair of the organization’s electronic equipment.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential:
- Recruits staff to include interviewing, hiring, assigning work, training, coaching, and counseling to ensure consistent application of Employee Guidelines, processes, and procedures. Conducts performance review, and holds employees accountable for performance of their responsibilities.
- Directs and oversees troubleshooting, repair, preventative maintenance, installations, and upgrade activities of on-board and portable radio equipment, video equipment, and ITS equipment in the organization’s fleets and sub-fleets.
- Coordinates configuration control and unit programming of secure public safety radios and ITS equipment, as well as installation of software upgrades provided by vendors.
- Monitors radio network performance, cellular data network performance, and garage Wi-Fi network performance, identifying traffic, loading, individual equipment performance, and data quality issues.
- Manages inventory of active and secure public safety spare radio equipment and ITS equipment through the maintenance management program. Also manages shipping, receiving, storage and issuance/return of this equipment. Ensures that equipment and software are on maintenance contracts as applicable.
- Manages, oversees, and maintains electronic component repair/rebuild program to support Inventory Control Services (Warehouse) in supplying equipment to fleet maintenance divisions.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree in electronics, electrical engineering, computer science, radio communications, or business management required. Bachelor’s degree in electronics, electrical engineering, computer science, radio communications, business management or related field preferred.
- A minimum of ten years of experience in operations in the radio, communications, and electronics fields to include materials management, preventative maintenance and quality assurance.
- A minimum of one year of supervisory experience, preferred experience supervising in union environment.
- A minimum of five years supporting a mission critical dispatch center
- A minimum of three years writing, modifying, and cloning digital trunking, P25 voice radios
- A minimum of three years working with a labor and parts tracking system including inventory management (Trapeze EAM or similar)
- A minimum of three years working with an Internet Protocol based CCTV system
- Motorola Certification and System Key from the State of Colorado preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Proficiency in radio/computer system administration.
- Proficiency in electronic repair at the board and component level.
- Proficiency in file systems, database management, current hardware systems architecture and client/server techniques with experience with communication system hardware and software such as LAN, Wi-Fi, Land Mobile Radio, cellular data, AVL, diagnostic test equipment
- Proficiency in radio operation theory and IP networks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and asset tracking programs such as Maximus/Asset Works, Maximo, or MCM.
- Ability to research and troubleshoot.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to use sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing and prioritizing.
- Ability to be on call seven days a week, 24 hours a day
- Valid Colorado driver's license and acceptable MVR per the organization’s current standards.
