Description:

POSITION PURPOSE: Will oversee daily operations of the shelter, ensuring that it runs smoothly and effectively while maintaining a safe and respectful environment. The supervisor will lead and support shelter staff, manage client services, and work to improve shelter operations in alignment with the organization’s mission and values.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Shelter Operations:

    • Supervise and manage shelter staff, including shift leaders, case managers, and support staff.

    • Oversee daily shelter operations, including client intake, bed assignments, and service coordination.

    • Ensure that the shelter environment is clean, safe, and welcoming for clients.

  • Staff Leadership and Development:

    • Provide training, guidance, and support to shelter staff, including onboarding new employees.

    • Conduct regular staff meetings to address issues, review policies, and provide updates.

    • Evaluate staff performance and provide feedback and support for professional development.

  • Client Support and Services:

    • Develop and implement client support programs, including access to resources, case management, and crisis intervention.

    • Address client concerns and resolve conflicts in a professional and compassionate manner.

    • Ensure that shelter services are delivered in a low-barrier, non-judgmental manner, respecting the dignity and rights of each individual.

  • Compliance and Safety:

    • Ensure that shelter operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as organizational policies and procedures.

    • Implement and enforce safety protocols to protect both clients and staff.

    • Conduct regular safety drills and emergency preparedness training.

  • Administrative Duties:

    • Maintain accurate records related to shelter operations, including client intake forms, incident reports, and inventory.

    • Prepare and submit reports on shelter activities, client statistics, and other relevant data.

    • Assist in budgeting and resource allocation for the shelter.

  • Community and Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, service providers, and stakeholders.

    • Represent the shelter at community meetings, forums, and events to advocate for the needs of the homeless population.

    • Collaborate with other agencies to ensure comprehensive support for clients.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a human services or related discipline and 2 years (1 year as a supervisor/lead) OR Bachelor’s degree in a human services or related discipline with 3 years (2 year as supervisor/lead) OR associates with 5 years (3 years as a supervisor/lead).
  • Experience in homeless services, mental health, counseling, health services, and/or supportive services programs for vulnerable and at-risk populations.
  • Act 33/34/73 clearances

  • Valid Driver License

  • Ability to drive an organization vehicle

  • Pre-Employment Drug Screen

  • Must have excellent communication skills both written/oral along with great attention to detail relating to documentation, deadlines, and other deliverables
  • Strong understanding of low-barrier shelter models and best practices in homeless services.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and handle crisis situations effectively.

  • Empathy, cultural competence, and a commitment to serving individuals experiencing homelessness.

  • Ability to lift and move objects as needed for shelter operations

  • WORK SCHEDULE: (This is an Exempt salary position). Mainly daylight with some evenings, overnights and weekends based on program needs
