The Supervising Psychiatrist leads, supports, and coordinates the activities of subordinate psychiatric physicians and nurse practitioners at the Oregon State Hospital, and may serve as a primary physician on a unit when resource needs require.  In this capacity, the Supervising Psychiatrist assures compliance with Federal and State laws, Administrative Rules, Joint Commission and CMS standards, OSH policies, and professional standards of practice.  The Supervising Psychiatrist is also a member of the program executive team, and collaborates with associate chiefs in other clinical disciplines, as well as the program director, to ensure the effective and efficient functioning of clinical processes within the program.  This includes oversight of program-wide, unit-wide, and individual patient processes and the treatment provided.

Minimum Qualifications: These qualifications must be reflected in your application for consideration.

You must possess:

  • Board certification in general psychiatry at the time of appointment. 

  • Physician's license issued by the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners at the time of appointment and maintain the licensure throughout employment. 

  • 3 years minimum experience in an inpatient or outpatient setting.

  • Advanced knowledge of psychiatric care, including forensic and complex clinical cases, with the ability to provide high-level consultation and direct treatment when needed. 

  • Experience guiding, mentoring and supporting psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners to ensure quality standards and implement recovery-oriented, evidence-based care while fostering a collaborative, patient-centered environment. 

  • Experience balancing clinical and administrative responsibilities, program planning, policy implementation, and compliance with regulatory standards. 

  • Experience thriving in a dynamic hospital setting, embracing clinical challenges, and utilizing collaborative problem-solving techniques to address barriers to patient care and staff development.   

  • Experience leading risk management initiatives and structured pathways for forensic patients, including transition planning and community reintegration.

Preference Statement:  

Preference may be given to candidates who possess extensive inpatient, leadership and psychiatric clinical experience providing oversight and direction on clinical issues.

  • This announcement is for one full-time, permanent management service supervisory, Supervising Psychiatrist (Supervising Physician) based in Salem, Oregon.

  • Employment is contingent upon a criminal records check that meets OHA criteria at the time of hire and throughout employment. OSH employees are required to have a criminal records check every two years.

  • The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying range. If the successful candidate qualifies for PERS, the salary range will increase by 6.95%. For more information, see the Classification and Compensation page.
