Job Summary
Manage functions and activities of the Communications and control team, including development of material, design and installation standards. Manage trouble calls across the system, facilitate design and operating best practices throughout the organization. Maintain close communications and working relationships with various Operating, engineering, and staff departments in an effort to provide needed technical support and direction. Insure the personal and professional development of the comm and control Team
Essential Functions
- Sets the example for safety, best practices, work ethic, and company values for the C&C Engineering team
- Leads diverse team of qualified individuals with authority to hire, terminate, promote, demote, coach, develop and performance manage.
- Provides leadership and technical direction for all C&C capital and maintenance projects
- Provides technical expertise for scoping and planning future capital projects
- Ensures field engineers are progressing by providing clear goals aligned with company values, conducting performance reviews, visiting job sites, inspecting work, and coaching employees
- Ensures that field engineers are maintaining uniform and safe testing practices
- Provides coaching to field engineers concerning rules and procedures that insure safe working conditions.
- Collaborates with operations and field engineers to resolve transmission and distribution system problems.
- Investigates and documents system interruptions by utilizing the appropriate databases, Remote tools, SERs, EMS system, control prints, and field engineers.
- Responsible for ensuring that internal engineering and external engineering firms abide by company standards of control schemes, equipment manufacturers and models.
- Reviews the design of communications tower grounding systems and recommends improvements.
- Provides technical assistance and engineering services to various departments within the company as well as industrial and commercial customers.
- Coordinates communications system maintenance program activities and maintains all associated databases
- Interfaces with neighboring utilities concerning maintenance and troubleshooting of communication equipment on common circuits.
- Maintains replacement parts inventory and issues purchase requisitions for parts or repairs as required.
- Ensures that communications standards and NIPSCO electric standards are up-to-date
- Inventories, budgets, and orders the instruments and tools required by the field engineering staff.
- Prepares capital budget items for protection and control system improvements to insure continued electric system reliability.
- Coordinates the maintenance and upkeep of all substation schematic and wiring diagrams, associated engineering records and computer databases.
Required Qualifications for Position
- Bachelor's Degree Engineering or Engineering Technology (ABET accredited)
- 5+ years of Operations experience
- Minimum 3 years leadership experience over complex programs or projects.
- Broad knowledge and experience in the design and installation of overhead and underground electric installations transmission and distribution facilities. Low
- Strong understanding of National Electrical Safety Code, National Electric Code, Department of Transportation regulations, other industry/state/national codes, standards & regulations related to electric and gas facilities and equipment. Medium
- Working knowledge of standard NiSource PC software suite. Medium
- Working knowledge of operations support systems.(EASI, WMS, Incident Reporting System, etc)
- Strong interpersonal skills. High

- Demonstrated direct interface in providing support to commission audits and inquiries. Medium
- Understanding of tariff and Policy & Procedure.
Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
- Master's degree in business or engineering.
- Previous supervisory or management experience that demonstrates the required skills and competencies.

Salary Range*:
$110,200.00 - $165,300.00*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
