About the Team & Role

The UI Dev team within the UXUI team is a frontend engineering team that primarily works on a new application being developed for the Renaissance program. The dev intern would be involved with development efforts, including new feature development work and bug fixes.

Job Summary & Responsibilities

As a UI/UX-focused Software Engineering Intern, you'll work alongside our design and engineering teams to build and refine the components that make up our design system, the shared library of buttons, inputs, modals, and patterns used across our products. You'll spend your internship shipping real UI changes that users see, learning how a production design system is maintained, and getting hands-on experience translating design specs into accessible, reusable front-end code. You'll be paired with a mentor and embedded in a product team, participating in the same code reviews, standups, and release cycles as full-time engineers.

  • Build, extend, and maintain components in our design system, including variants, states, and responsive behavior

  • Implement small-to-medium UI changes across our products, from spacing and typography fixes to new interface flows

  • Partner with designers to translate mockups and prototypes into working code, flagging edge cases and technical constraints early

  • Improve component documentation and usage examples so other engineers can adopt patterns correctly

  • Contribute to accessibility work, keyboard navigation, screen reader support, color contrast, and compliance

  • Write and maintain tests (unit, visual regression) for components you touch

  • Participate in code reviews, both giving and receiving feedback

  • Help identify and pay down UI tech debt, such as consolidating one-off styles into shared components

  • Present your work at the end of the internship to the broader engineering and design org

Candidate Qualifications

Rising senior or second-year graduate student, graduating December 2027 or May/August 2028.

Desired Majors

  • Computer Science, but potentially flexible

Technical Skills/Experience Desired

  • Knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, familiarity with React would be strongly preferred, familiarity of TypeScript and Tailwind would be a bonus.

Additional Qualifications

  • Interest in being user-focused and accessible practices is a huge plus
