Work Period: July through December
Location: Onsite in Needham, MA. There is no relocation or housing assistance for this position.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Heath & Safety Co-op to join our Environmental Health, Safety, and Security team, which is based in Facilities. This co-op offers an excellent opportunity for students pursuing degrees in Safety Management, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related fields to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic work environment. The ideal candidate will assist in the implementation of safety initiatives, conduct inspections, and contribute to a culture of safety within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in workplace inspections and safety audits to identify potential hazards and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Support the preparation and delivery of safety training sessions for employees.
  • Conduct research and analysis on best practices in safety management and environmental compliance.
  • Help maintain safety records and documentation, ensuring compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the investigation of workplace incidents and near-misses, preparing reports and recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with various departments to promote safety awareness and encourage a proactive safety culture.
  • Participate in safety meetings and contribute ideas for continuous improvement in safety practices.
  • Support the EHSS team with administrative tasks as required.

Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program in safety management, environmental science, industrial hygiene, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations (OSHA, EPA) and EHS principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Previous safety-related experience or coursework is a plus, but not required.

Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies.
  • Basic knowledge of industrial processes and hazards.
  • Experience with data analysis and presentation tools.
