Under the direction of the Program Manager, the SLS educator is responsible for implementing the Individual Program Plan (IPP) and Individualized Service Plan (ISP). With the guidance of area Regional Centers, SLS Educator will focus on increasing consumer independence by providing SLS services to adults with developmental disabilities. SLS Educator shall always strive to provide the best service available to support a consumer's (client) right to choice, independence, self empowerment and community involvement, while helping the consumer to balance safety, risk, and community orientation in an independent and responsible manner. This position is a part time substitute position, hours are not guaranteed. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide the highest level of ongoing personal are and safety assistance through individual support plans; supervise consumer according to authorization provided by Regional Center; provide direct services as a substitute educator. 
• Supervise the daily implementation of goals, such as performing tasks that identify consumer needs and that encourage independence in tasks for which the consumer has the skill and ability.
• Monitor consumer responsibility in the area of monthly financial budgeting and provide for the identification of learning new skill objectives.
• Assist consumer with daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, cooking, cleaning, health, medication management and shopping; medication management does not include handling or giving consumer medication directly; Monitor consumer's medication and remain cognizant to health-related behaviors and/or changes.
• Provide comprehensive session notes of consumer development and behavioral interaction; ensure documentation on session notes are accurate and true
• Required to attend in-service meetings
• Encourage active involvement and decision making to attain goals and advance consumer to a higher skill level of independent living; communication among staff on same case; communication with management regarding consumer development and progress
• Advocate and work closely with consumer through governmental agencies such as Medi-Cal, AFDC, SSI, IHSS and other non-profit organizations; assist consumer with obtaining and maintaining affordable housing; staff member is not to lease or rent housing to consumer without written approval from Regional Center
• Maintain active communication with Program Manager and represent company during IPP meetings, if needed/requested.

Qualifications

• Ability to be creative, proactive and sensitive in solving consumer's problem and complex issues
• Ability to read and write English
• Valid CPR and First Aid certification
• Valid class "C" Driver's License
• Valid Auto Insurance Required

EDUCATION:
• High School Diploma or GED or 1-year experience in the field of social services
• Associates Degree

Skills Required

  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification
  • Valid Class C Driver's License
  • Valid auto insurance
