What You’ll Do

As a Substitute Teacher, you’ll help create a classroom where children feel safe, loved, engaged, and excited to learn.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing the weekly curriculum provided by New Creations
  • Following daily classroom schedules and routines
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and engaging learning environment
  • Collaborating with teaching staff and center leadership
  • Building positive relationships with families and communicating regularly
  • Actively engaging with children through play, exploration, and learning
  • Supporting children’s health, well-being, and development through positive guidance
  • Performing additional duties as needed

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Previous childcare experience, preferably in a childcare center environment
  • For Teacher/Assistant Teacher qualified positions- meets the education & experience requirements as defined by DCYF
  • Exemplifies the standards and characteristics of a New Creations employee (responsible, flexible, reliable, positive role model, etc.)
  • State DHS background check and fingerprints shall determine that the applicant has not been “convicted of a felony... has no criminal record that the commissioner reasonably believes renders the person unsuitable to be employed in a child care center.”
  • Certification in Adult and Pediatric First Aid & CPR completed within 30 days of employment.
  • All DCYF orientation training will need to be completed on day 1 of employment. 

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
With or without reasonable accommodation this position requires:

  • Ability to travel on an ongoing basis.
  • Extensive standing and walking; sitting on the floor and on low (12”) chairs.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling.
  • Lifting and carrying children extensively in the infant/toddler program; less frequently in the preschool program, but the children are heavier.
  • Frequent moving of equipment (cots, tables, etc.).
  • Pushing children in buggies, strollers, and walking for considerable periods.
  • The necessity of being outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Exposure to unpleasant odors and fluids caused by vomit (occasional) and bodily elimination.
  • Relatively frequent exposure to loud noises (baby crying, toys falling and other common occurrences of children at play).

Skills Required

  • Previous childcare experience, preferably in a childcare center environment
  • Meet DCYF education and experience requirements for Teacher or Assistant Teacher-qualified positions
  • Responsible, flexible, reliable, positive role model, and aligned with employer standards
  • Pass state DHS background check and fingerprinting requirements
  • Complete Adult and Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of employment
  • Complete all DCYF orientation training on the first day of employment
  • Ability to travel on an ongoing basis
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, sit on the floor, and work with low chairs
  • Ability to lift and carry children and move classroom equipment
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and tolerate exposure to bodily fluids and loud noises
