Description
The Drafter will be a collaborative, detail-oriented member of the Substation Engineering Group, responsible for preparing civil and electrical drawings in support of energy infrastructure projects. Working alongside engineers and consultants, this role contributes to the production of structural, foundation, and electrical drawings for power substation projects — including sections, plans, electrical one-lines, and schematics — serving clients across Westwood's Power market portfolio.
This position is an excellent entry point for a motivated drafter who takes pride in accurate, high-quality work and is eager to build foundational expertise in the power utility space within a team-oriented consulting environment.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform computer-aided design and drafting of all engineering products and deliverables, including sections, plans, electrical one-line diagrams, and schematics for substation projects.
- Support the preparation of structural, foundation, and electrical drawings for power substation infrastructure under the direction of engineering staff.
- Collaborate with engineers and fellow drafters to identify and correct discrepancies in drawings and designs.
- Self-check all completed work for accuracy and completeness prior to submitting to the assigned supervisor or reviewer.
- Understand and adhere to project schedules and quality requirements, completing drawings accurately and efficiently.
- Manage multiple concurrent assignments, maintaining flexibility to accommodate changes in work scope or priorities as project needs evolve.
- Actively support full project delivery, including correspondence via phone or email, attendance at project meetings, and contribution to other project documentation as required.
- Provide interdepartmental support as needed to advance team and organizational goals.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Working experience with AutoCAD or similar design software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong results orientation with the ability to prioritize, plan, and exercise sound judgment when managing competing demands.
- Ability to invite and incorporate constructive feedback as part of a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to function effectively within a team-oriented culture of cooperation and collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications:
The following qualifications are preferred but not required for consideration:
- Associate's degree in Design and Drafting Technology or a related field of study.
- 3 or more years of CAD experience; AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D experience preferred.
- Prior experience drafting civil and structural drawings.
- Familiarity with transmission, distribution, and/or substation projects in the electric utility industry.
