As the Subrogation Negotiator, you will be responsible for the negotiations, settlement, and resolution of auto property damage claims with the adverse party. This includes 3rd party carriers, the 3rd party directly, our customer insurance carrier (Canada), or individuals as well as coordinating liability disputes with our customer’s liability carrier. You will be responsible for maximizing collection in the shortest cycle time possible on behalf of our customers, providing exceptional customer service, industry knowledge and guidance to our customer on best practices.
A Day in the Life
- Profile new and existing accounts and initiate collection recoveries through both verbal and written communications
- Pursue claims and secure/negotiate collection timely while maximizing collection from the at fault 3rd party or customer carrier (Canada)
- Processing of claims involving uninsured motorists including payment plan negotiations and evaluation for legal and/or collections referral
- Work with various resources to determine the location of the at fault party whose whereabouts are unknown
- Review the at fault parties’ financial capabilities to ensure all possible avenues of recovery have been examined
- Evaluate the claim to decide if it should be referred to arbitration, suit, or collections. Prepare any such claims for advancement and schedule and coordinate follow up with these vendors
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the subrogation claim process and awareness of laws that govern the collection activities and state statutes
- Maintain a knowledge and understanding of all expectations and processes related to US and Canadian claims
- Maintain a basic understanding of the repair/estimating process and knowledge regarding repair delays affecting the industry
- Provide customer service to both the customer contact and their employee/driver and send requests to customer liaisons for information
- Engage in customer meetings, evaluate customer reports, and provide guidance and knowledge on next steps and best practices as needed/directed
- Coordinate liability disputes with our customers’ carrier when necessary to validate the claim objectives are aligned
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- College degree and 2+ years of insurance industry experience or 4+ years Subrogation, collections or negotiations experience required
- MS Office, Excel (use functions, pivots, sort data), PowerPoint (create summary presentations)
- Must be able to handle challenging conversations and exhibit conflict management skills
- Estimating or ICar Training/knowledge is preferred
- Canadian claims experience a plus
- CSRP - Certified Subrogation Recovery Professional Designation a plus
The hiring base salary range for this position is $60,400 - $83,050 annually. Actual compensation within this range will be dependent upon the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data.
