Job Title: Student Involvement Specialist

Department: Center for Student Engagement

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Grade: 4

Work Schedule: 35 hours/week; 12 months/year

Hourly Range: $20.22 - $24.73

Reports to: Assistant Director, Student Involvement

The Student Involvement Specialist provides assistance to the Assistant Director of Student Involvement to encourage student involvement/engagement and to connect students with campus involvement opportunities to enhance their overall student experience. The Coordinator must be committed to fostering social change through the arts as well as the social, artistic, educational, cultural, and recreational development of art students. The Coordinator must be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student body and familiar with the challenges of community arts. This position requires flexible hours as well as evening and weekend hours.

Position responsibilities: 

  • Chair the campus-wide Orientation committee, which provides vision and direction for the College’s student orientation experience.

  • Coordinate all logistics and planning for First-Year Student Orientation and Transfer Student Orientation.

  • Oversee the Orientation Leader recruitment and selection process.

  • Recruit, train and supervise the Student Orientation Director(s), who plans and executes various aspects of New Student Orientation in the fall.

  • Implement an intentional training program for the Orientation Leaders in collaboration with the Student Orientation Director.

  • Plan and execute Spring Student Orientation in January.

  • Support special student populations such as Transfer students, Commuter students, and First-Gen students.

  • Recruit, train and supervise a Masters level office intern every summer.

  • Manage all student organizations and provide support in the execution of their activities/events.

  • Allocate and manage student organization budgets. 

  • Support student organization’s leadership development, including implementation of training, handbook, and retreat.

  • Develop and implement learning outcomes, assessment and evaluation methods and data reporting structure for programs and/or student leaders. 

  • Provide support for office events and initiatives.

  • Assist with the implementation, set-up, and coordination of campus events as assigned, including but not limited to: New Student Orientation, Parent & Family Weekend, Leadership Awards Ceremony and Commencement.

  • Participate in campus-wide and Division of Student Affairs committees as assigned.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 1-3 years of experience in a college or university setting OR Master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration or related field

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to exercise initiative and plan ahead

  • Sensitivity to and interest in the unique concerns of art students and the studio experience in a highly specialized and demanding educational environment

  • Orientation and/or Student Organization experience

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Experience supervising and/or advising undergraduate students

  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work in a collaborative, arts-oriented academic environment

  • Believe in the value of art and creativity in the community

  • Required training: Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment. (additional training may be added, SEE: EHS Manager training schedule)
