We are offering a position for a dedicated student to join our multidisciplinary team within Discovery Sciences at Novartis Biomedical Research. This opportunity is for a duration of 3 to 6 months (until the end of the year).

Job Description

As part of our team, you will work with fusion proteins to enable cryo-EM structure determination for challenging drug targets. The project focuses on optimizing electron microscopy data collection and processing to efficiently screen these proteins. Additionally, you will develop methodologies to evaluate the potential of fusion proteins based on the collected data.
Your tasks will include cryo-EM sample preparation, electron microscopy data collection as well as computational analysis of the results.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in a collaborative setting and contribute to ongoing drug discovery projects at Novartis.

Preferred start date: as soon as possible

Duration: 3-6 months (until the end of the year)

Major accountabilities:

• Optimize and apply cryo-EM data collection strategies to screen recombinant protein samples

• Explore data analysis strategies to evaluate and rank data from collected protein samples

• Contribute to active drug discovery projects at Novartis

• Plan experiments and report findings in seminars

What you'll bring to the role:

• Currently enrolled BSc/MSc student in biochemistry, biophysics, computer science or related field or recent graduate without work experience after graduation

• Interest in electron microscopy and data analysis

Skills:

• Excellent organizational skills and a pro-active attitude

• Previous experience in structural biology or scientific data analysis

• Team-oriented

• Interest in learning cryo-EM data collection and analysis

Languages:

• Business-level English skills; additional languages are a plus
