The Payloads Organization within Boeing Commercial Aircraft is seeking a Structure & Payload Design Engineer (Associate) (Payload Systems Design) to join the SoCal Payloads Team in San Diego, CA.
This position requires a proactive individual who is able to approach problems systemically, manage issues with both the big picture and details in mind, clearly communicate technical and non-technical issues, manage and prioritize multiple concurrent tasks, and consistently communicate/collaborate efficiently with all internal and external stakeholders. This position is expected to be 100% onsite in San Diego, CA.
The selected candidate will have a statement of work that spans the product lifecycle: supporting customer configuration development, supplier engagement, validating and verifying design requirements, integrating business needs, supporting the product through the production and certification processes and assisting with customer product support issues. Your work will include the need to interface with other members of project engineering, production engineering, program/product teams, management, and technical staff to define and implement engineering solutions. You will be able to combine the expertise and resources of the interiors organization to certify and deliver the best interiors products within the industry.
Position Responsibilities:
- Assists to develop, integrate and document structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design
- Develops, maintains and modifies basic structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle
- Performs tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications
- Assists with supplier development, test and production activities and coordination with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals
- Supports investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements
- Works under general supervision.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
- 2+ years of experience in engineering or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 2+ years of experience in engineering, including design, integration, and/or certification
- 2+ years of experience in Aircraft Interiors Design and/or Certification
- 2+ years of experience in designing payload structures and/or payload mechanical assemblies
- Experience with Payloads/Interior commodities and systems
- Experience in aerospace interiors, materials and properties, design criteria and release processes
- Working knowledge of Airplane Payloads and Interiors
- Working knowledge of FAA and/or EASA transport category aircraft program regulations
- Working knowledge of managing supplier activities
- Working knowledge of CSDT (Customer and Supplier Data Transmittal)
- Working knowledge of ETAC (Engineering Tracking and Control)
- Working knowledge of PDM (Product Data Manager)
- Working knowledge of IVT (Integration Visualization Tool)
- Working knowledge of CATIA V5 (or equivalent 3D CAD design software)
- Working knowledge of ENOVIA LCA (ENOVIA life cycle application)
- Working knowledge of Root Cause Corrective Action
- Working knowledge of program management/project management
- Working knowledge of working with and partnering with cross-functional teams on projects and initiatives
- Working knowledge of engineering drawings review and release process
- Strong oral and written communications skills
- Ability to collaborate and work with cross functional teams
- Demonstrates good problem-solving skills and critical thinking
- Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally
