Job Description:
Summary:
Barr is seeking a structural engineer to join our team and work with multidisciplinary project teams providing structural engineering and related technical expertise. Project assignments may include design and analysis of structural systems, project management, preparation of plans and specifications, report writing, cost estimating, and construction observation. Clients will primarily consist of mining, manufacturing, power, refinery, and other industrial companies. Work may require short-term out-of-town work assignments.
This individual will also have the opportunity to play a role in day-to-day client service and business development as a key part of the structural engineering team in Barr's Hibbing, Minnesota, office. Business development activities may include building and maintaining client relationships, tracking marketing leads and project opportunities, developing proposals and presentations, and networking and informing clients of the full range of Barr's capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in civil, structural, or construction engineering (including structural analysis and steel and concrete design)

10 years of experience directly related to the job responsibilities described above

Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients

Demonstrated business development skills and client relationship development skills

Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness

Willingness to work in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative

A flexible working style and ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs

Demonstrated project organization and management skills

Experience with AutoCAD and structural engineering analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or MathCAD or willingness to learn software

Professional engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain PE certification within one year

Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:

15 or more years of related work experience

Master's degree in civil or structural engineering

Work experience with structural engineering analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or MathCAD

Strong technical and problem-solving skills in a wide range of structural analysis and design

Experience in the consulting industry

Demonstrated ability to work independently and with teams of multiple disciplines

Established network with area clients and the ability to develop or foster ongoing relationships and maintain a high level of client service
A hybrid or remote work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office; a remote arrangement refers to working primarily from a home office. This position is/can be based out of Barr's Hibbing, Minnesota, office. Remote arrangements will be considered based on candidate qualifications, location requirements, and Barr’s needs.

Compensation:
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $115,000 to 135,000 per year. Compensation will vary based on experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus. Barr's compensation comes in more ways than traditional base salary, and we believe that when all those elements are combined, our compensation is a competitive part of the total value proposition of working at Barr.

NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.
