The Mission Solutions Business Area at Leidos has an opening for a Structural Engineer in Reston, Virginia. The primary focus of the group is reverse engineering Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) related underground and hardened facilities. Candidate must bring a creative, yet sound, approach to identifying and solving challenges where all the information desired is inherently unavailable and have exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to thoroughness. The successful candidate will work as a member of an interdisciplinary team of government and contractor personnel. Work will be performed in a fast-paced, high-energy environment within a government facility.
Role and Responsibility:
The candidate shall perform the following as part of a characterization team:
Systematically integrate all-source intelligence, geotechnical data, topographical data, underground expertise, and engineering principles and best practices to describe WMD facility function (mission) and physical configuration, including layout, physical structure, mission systems, support systems, 3D model and corresponding potential vulnerabilities
Provide engineering guidance and judgment throughout the characterization process to produce accurate intelligence estimates
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to successfully brief and interact with personnel at all levels of experience, including Senior Officials
Required Skills, Education, and Experience:
- Candidate must possess an active TS/SCI, or a Top Secret clearance with a current SSBI, and be eligible to obtain a TS/SCI w/ poly level clearance. US Citizenship is required.
- There are varying levels of Positions available ranging from Bachelor of Science degree and 4+ years of prior relevant experience or MS with 2+ years of prior relevant experience TO Bachelor of Science and 12+ years of experience or Masters and 10+ years experience.
- Must have a Structural, Civil, Mining or Protective Engineering degree
- Must have knowledge of structural dynamics, design, and construction, as well as be able to perform design calculations and conduct engineering assessments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to successfully brief and interact with personnel at all levels of experience, including Senior Officials
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Autodesk Revit, Autodesk AutoCAD, or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software and practices
- Working knowledge of protective engineering or physical force protection measures
- Professional Engineering certification
- Military or defense-related experience and an understanding of operational planning
- Construction experience, particularly tunneling or large-scale excavations
- Modeling and simulation experience
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and life-safety systems and their controls found in larger commercial, government, or industrial facilities
- Production (manufacturing, fabrication, or assembly) or warehouse design, workflow development or management experience
- Working knowledge of weapons and weapons effects
- Working knowledge of geology or geotechnology
