Job Description
The Structural Engineer performs analysis of building materials for use in construction. The Engineer designs load-bearing structures or structural elements, such as buildings, equipment supports and foundations. Performs structural analysis of new and existing structured for both gravity and lateral (wind and seismic) load conditions. Prepares structural calculations, reports and details of structural elements that conform to client, regulatory, and industry standards. Tasks will include utilizing computer aided drafting and a variety of engineering software.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for basic lay out structural systems in conformance with code requirements and in coordination with other design disciplines
- Works closely with other architects, engineers, and designers, as well as other internal and external team members to ensure a coordinated, constructible, and complete design.
- The Engineer works on matters of fundamental and basic complexity in a support role under the direction of more experienced Lead or senior engineer
- May work on one or more projects simultaneously as directed by a Supervisor
- Project work may include all levels of design such as studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.
- Interface with client and external partners
- Perform fundamental internal cross-discipline project team coordination
- Perform fundamental discipline design calculations under the supervision of an engineer
- Conducts basic field investigations to integrate the design with existing systems and structures
- Work closely with other architects, engineers, and designers, as well as other internal and external team members to ensure a coordinated, constructible, and complete design
- Works on matters of fundamental and basic complexity in a support role under the direction of more experienced Lead or senior engineer.
- Expected to self-check one’s own work
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in discipline specific degree
- 0 to 3 years of experience, preferably in a design firm setting
- Fundamentals of Engineering Exam registration or completion preferred
Additional Qualifications
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit preferred
- Fundamental experience with performing engineering calculations, and developing and implementing list of discipline systems designs required
- Fundamental experience with the discipline code, generically stated preferred
- Project work may include all levels of design such as studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration
