🚀 Whatnot

Whatnot is the largest livestream shopping platform in North America and Europe to buy, sell, and discover the things you love. We’re building the future of ecommerce, bringing together community, shopping and entertainment. We are committed to our values, and as a remote co-located team, we operate out of hubs within the US, UK, Ireland, Poland, and Germany today.

We’re innovating in the fast-paced world of live auctions from fashion, beauty, electronics to collectibles like trading cards, comic books, and even live plants. Whatnot has something for everyone.

And, we’re growing. Whatnot has been one of the fastest growing marketplaces and we’re hiring forward-thinking problem solvers across all functional areas.

💻 Role

Ads on Whatnot allow our sellers to bet on themselves with their own dollars and supercharge their growth within the ecosystem. We are responsible for maximizing their return on investment and providing great new products and opportunities to attract new sellers who are interested in growing faster via Ads.

As the Strategy and Operations Manager for Ads at Whatnot, you will play a critical role in shaping and scaling our foundational Ads products. Reporting to the Director of Product for Ads, you will be a dedicated partner to the Ads team to drive strategy, execution, and optimization across all related initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams like Product, Engineering, Sales, and GTM.

What you'll do:

  • Develop and implement strategies to drive growth and optimize performance for our sellers across ad products.
  • Lead cross-functional projects in partnership with product and engineering teams to scale ads solutions and improve seller and buyer experiences.
  • Identify inefficiencies and missed opportunities in ads and sales operations to maximize our ability to deliver value to new sellers
  • Analyze ads data to provide actionable insights, guiding decisions that impact the overall experience.
  • Collaborate across the organization in conjunction with product,  engineering, and design to help design, evaluate, and scale Ads products, representing seller needs and ensuring smooth execution.
  • Build and manage key relationships with internal and external partners, sellers, and stakeholders to ensure alignment on ads initiatives.
  • Advocate for Whatnot sellers and represent their voice in determining the engineering roadmap

The Ads team is a small but mighty team right now, split across multiple time zones and locations from Krakow to London to New York to Los Angeles. This is an individual contributor role that is multidisciplinary in nature; you will be expected to fully embody the Whatnot principle of “own everything and nothing.”  As the Ads business grows and matures, there may be future opportunities to hire and lead a team of Ad Operations Specialists but this is unlikely to be in the next 18 months.

Team members in this role are required to be within commuting distance of our San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, or New York City hub.

👋 You

Curious about who thrives at Whatnot? We’ve found that low ego, a growth mindset, and leaning into action and high impact goes a long way here.

  • 7+ years of overall professional experience
  • Past experience at a high growth startup, or working at a direct to consumer marketplace
  • Ability to operate as a team of 1 and get in the weeds to produce results in a highly ambiguous environment. You are scrappy and no job is too small
  • Skills in gathering user feedback from buyers and sellers, extracting insights, and courage to advocate for product change
  • A learning mindset around complex data and to create programs that inform go-to-market strategy, sales, and product development
  • Excellent internal and external communication skills and especially experience in building/ managing partnerships externally
  • Bias for action in a distributed work environment
