Job purpose

The Strategic Sourcing Specialist is responsible for serving as the liaison between internal customers (operations support), vendors, and internal teams to manage procurement contracting and purchasing execution for packaged product orders and the sourcing of new ingredients. Using relevant data, they anticipate customer needs, proactively optimize sourcing and supply efficiencies, and leverage our manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics systems to drive customer satisfaction. The position works closely with Retail on seasonal promotions, supplier coordination, and related sourcing and purchasing projects.

  • Ensure accurate order and transfer scheduling

 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Manage procurement contracting and purchasing of packaged product inventory across multiple locations, collaborating closely with regional teams and executing ERP transactions for customer orders and purchased goods
  • Plan and oversee packaged goods routing to maximize operational efficiency
  • Act as the primary point of contact for packaged product procurement (anything for mill usage and/or retail sales), ensuring timely and accurate coordination
  • Order all retail products requiring internal logistics and storage
  • Utilize systems, tools, and data to forecast order patterns and fulfill them efficiently
  • Communicate proactively with the Operations team to provide updates on delivery timelines
  • Foster open communication between teams to ensure optimization of processes and information flow
  • Work seamlessly within the existing Procurement team environment
  • Continuously evaluate and optimize packaged product inventory
  • Address inventory and logistical challenges promptly
  • Manage Palm Fat products, including forecasting, inventory management, ordering, logistics coordination, supplier communication, and distribution across locations to support mill usage and retail demand
  • Collaborate closely with the Retail Technical Sales Specialist to support promotional activities
  • Analyze, plan, and coordinate early orders in coordination with the Retail team to ensure timely distribution
  • Determine order quantities based on minimum/maximum thresholds, inventory levels, seasonal demand, and anticipated requirements
  • Ensure timely and accurate inventory valuation and optimization
  • Resolve variances and approve vendor invoices in a timely manner
  • Support regulatory compliance, quality initiatives, and supplier and ingredient approval processes
  • Work closely with Operations to schedule deliveries via vendors or align with internal truck schedules
  • Proactively adapt to changing product demand and usage patterns
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications include

  • 3-5 years of experience in an agriculture-related, feed manufacturing or supply chain role preferred
  • General understanding of the agriculture and livestock production industries preferred
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills (particularly Excel) and experience with accounting software are beneficial
  • Supply chain management diploma or equivalent experience

 

Working conditions

  • Office-based role out of Strathmore, AB (40-hours a week in the office)
  • Ability to work outside of regular office hours as required
  • Some travel required (<5%)

 

Physical requirements

  • Walking, sitting, standing, driving, and flying to and from company operational facilities, customer locations, or offsite training and events as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 kg
