The Role

Job Description:

As a Strategic Sourcing Manager at Mars you will be accountable for bringing visibility to all embedded rail and truck freight costs that are currently supplier managed, and capturing any corresponding savings opportunities identified as a result. You will also work to improve freight rate negotiations, and plan a more structured, resilient freight network.

What are we looking for?

  • 3 years of sourcing and/or logistics management.

  • An in depth understanding of managing inventory in a distribution or manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated negotiation skills, including working with RFPs.

  • Bachelor's degree at a minimum.

What will be your key responsibilities?

Business Partner

  • Builds strong relationship with key strategic partners in order to build understanding of strategic partners

  • Co-creates solutions together with stakeholders driving speed, quality and best in class price

  • Communicates business risk & opportunity.

  • Leverages strong soft skills

Deliver Contracting Excellence

  • Secures price, capacity & service levels in line with commitments to the business.

  • Understands and mitigates business and commercial risk.

  • Manages benchmarking, RFP activity and drives the qualification and implementation of new suppliers.

Category Expertise

  • Partners closely with Sourcing/Buying Managers to provide input to the Category Strategy and to align on strategic buying initiatives.

  • Where no global strategy exists, create tactical subcategory plan and manage this.

  • Has a deep understanding of the category, establishes & maintains relationships with key stakeholders and their teams to ensure understanding of their needs and to facilitate the appropriate level of challenge.

  • Implement best practice for areas of responsibility. Participates in team knowledge transfer.

Supplier Relations

  • Manages the supplier performance, building relationship seeking joint opportunities. Manages supplier governance, including supplier performance and ensure the SPRM program implementation. Acts as key and first point of contact for supplier relationships.

  • Analyses supplier service levels and KPI to drive the right behaviours with suppliers

  • Develops continuous improvement action plan and executes. Monitors changes and adjusts plan as needed to sustain performance results.

  • Identifies and manages supplier collaboration initiatives (e.g. forecast management, electronic invoicing, operational process streamlining, etc.)

Portfolio Market Expert

  • Analyses external market, market trends, develops category expertise using his/her peer network, research tools and supplier relationship to be able to act as a subject matter expert.

  • Provides market and financial insights relevant to the subcategory and inputs to the internal financial planning and review processes.

  • Participates in external forums and associations.

Governance and Process

  • Ensures effective risk management of the supply base, through robust contracts and monitoring of financial and other KPIs. Implements corrective actions as appropriate.

  • Complies with policies, systems & controls.
