Job Description

The Strategic Initiatives Consultant for Technology will serve in a key, high-profile role accountable for the execution, shaping, and ongoing monitoring of a comprehensive Technology division roadmap. This individual will establish the governance, planning, and operational processes necessary to drive successful delivery of division priorities and enterprise technology initiatives. 

Leveraging expertise in technology strategy, program management, process improvement, data analysis, and business planning, this role will translate complex information into actionable insights that enable informed decision-making and measurable progress. The consultant will proactively analyze operational and strategic data, identify trends, risks, opportunities, and dependencies, and provide recommendations that improve efficiency, effectiveness, and value delivery across the Technology division. 

The Strategic Initiatives Consultant for Technology will be instrumental in identifying, developing, prioritizing, and implementing initiatives that advance Technology's strategic objectives, modernize capabilities, improve operational performance, and support Wellmark's corporate strategy and business outcomes. Through strong analytical, facilitation, and communication skills, this individual will effectively synthesize data, tell compelling stories, and deliver executive-level insights that drive action and results. 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in technology, strategy, consulting, program management, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional initiatives with senior leaders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to assess data, risks, opportunities, and dependencies and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Ability to synthesize complex business and technology information into clear executive-level insights and communications.
  • Strong planning, prioritization, facilitation, relationship-building, and change leadership skills.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to connect technology investments and initiatives to strategic objectives and business outcomes.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting technology organizations, digital transformation, enterprise platforms, product delivery, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data and analytics, or related technology functions.
  • Experience with portfolio management, strategic planning, technology governance, or executive reporting.
  • Familiarity with Agile, Lean, Product, Program, or Portfolio Management practices.

Additional Information

a. Partner with Technology leadership to identify, assess, prioritize, and execute strategic technology initiatives that advance divisional and enterprise objectives. Establish and continuously improve planning, governance, and decision-making processes that enable effective prioritization, resource allocation, and delivery of business value.

b. Lead annual and quarterly Technology planning; maintain an evergreen strategy, integrated roadmap, and comprehensive view of priorities, capabilities, initiatives, and investments.

c. Analyze operational, financial, delivery, and performance data to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and emerging issues. Translate complex information into actionable frameworks that improve decision-making, operational efficiency, service quality, and technology outcomes.

d. Partner with Strategic Initiatives Consultants and leaders across the enterprise to share best practices, identify synergies, and ensure alignment of strategic initiatives, dependencies, and enterprise objectives.

e. Define, monitor, and refine key performance indicators, operational metrics, and strategic measures that evaluate technology performance, portfolio health, delivery effectiveness, and organizational outcomes. Craft executive dashboards, reports, and insights.

f. Facilitate executive discussions and create concise, data-driven presentations and communications that inform decisions, align stakeholders, and drive action.

g. Translate technology strategy, portfolio performance, risks, and opportunities into concise, data-driven communications that inform decisions, align stakeholders, and drive action.

h. Other duties as assigned.
