Position Profile

The Strategic Account Sales Director is responsible for developing and executing strategic account plans that address client challenges and business objectives. This role defines long-term goals for assigned accounts, builds trusted customer relationships, identifies growth opportunities, and facilitates strategic discussions with clients. The Strategic Account Director will lead and participate in industry discussions and seminars, coordinate customer engagement in industry-specific events, and collaborate with subject matter experts and vendor partners to architect effective solutions.

This role is accountable for delivering profitable revenue growth, expanding service offerings, and ensuring long-term account retention. Deep expertise in the retail grocery industry is essential.

Job Duties and Responsibilities Strategic Thought Leadership and Differentiation
  • Serve as an industry subject matter expert by facilitating strategic planning discussions with customers and participating in industry forums, discussions, and seminars.
  • Share and apply industry best practices with prospective customers and peer Account Directors.
  • Lead and facilitate high-quality quarterly business reviews and annual strategy sessions, engaging appropriate subject matter experts.
Research and Networking
  • Research client organizations and prepare insightful questions to uncover key challenges and opportunities.
  • Translate customer-specific needs into actionable solutions by connecting industry trends, financial analysis, and strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Solutions Center to identify and address portfolio gaps needed to achieve client outcomes.
Account Relationship Development
  • Build and deepen relationships at all levels within the customer organization to drive continued growth.
  • Identify key line-of-business stakeholders and understand how departmental goals align with—or differ from—overall account objectives.
  • Develop and deliver relevant, value-driven content to department leaders, providing updates on account initiatives and outcomes.
Portfolio Expertise
  • Confidently articulate successful solution integrations and demonstrated customer outcomes.
  • Share internal and external best practices through account summaries, case studies, and press releases.
  • Secure customer references and testimonials.
  • Maintain relevant industry certifications and knowledge.
Long-Term Growth and Business Planning
  • Own and achieve annual revenue and profit targets with a focus on sustainable, long-term growth.
  • Develop comprehensive business plans for assigned accounts, including both one-year and three-to-five-year strategic growth roadmaps.
Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Industry-recognized certifications preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry-specific experience; leadership experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful sales experience.
  • Experience working with executive-level leaders within Fortune 1000 organizations.
  • Proven experience driving services growth.

Working Conditions, Mental and Physical Demands
  • Primarily office-based work environment with standard lighting, temperature, and noise levels.
  • Work assignments are varied and require the ability to interpret, analyze, and communicate complex information.
  • Minimal physical effort required; work is largely sedentary but may include occasional walking, standing, bending, reaching, or lifting objects under 10 lbs.
  • Moderate dexterity required, including regular use of a computer, keyboard, calculator, and basic office tools.
  • Travel required approximately 30%, including occasional overnight travel.
