Storage Engineer (Senior & Staff level roles)

*Note: This position requires presence in our San Francisco office location 4 days per week; Lambda’s designated work from home day is currently Tuesday.

What You’ll Do: 

• Design, implement, and deliver storage offerings for our GPU cloud

• Operate, monitor, and optimize our current storage offerings

• Troubleshoot and fix storage issues

• Evaluate and work with storage vendors to offer solutions

• Work closely with other engineering departments to deliver storage solutions via APIs

• Occasional travel to Lambda Datacenters to assist with new installations, troubleshooting, and maintenance of storage arrays. 

You Have:

• 8+ years of experience designing, building, and operating large-scale multi-petabyte storage production environments

• A strong understanding of diverse storage solutions and their ecosystems:

  • File, Block, and Object storage systems

  • Storage Protocols such as NFS, iSCSI, NVMe-oF/TCP

  • InfiniBand, GPUDirect Storage, NFSoRDMS, parallel file systems, NVMVe

  • Encryption, storage security, and multi-tenancy strategies

  • Backup and data protections

• 5+ years of experience in Python or GoLang

• 5+ years of experience in Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform, Ansible).

Nice to Have

• Experience with Kubernetes, including CSI and CNI’s

• Strong understanding of public cloud features (e.g., SDN, block storage, distributed file systems, identity management)

• Experience deploying, operating, and maintaining Ceph

• Have implemented either open-source or commercial monitoring solutions of storage and storage-adjacent solutions

Salary Range Information 

Based on market data and other factors, the annual salary range for this position is $285,000 - $440,000. However, a salary higher or lower than this range may be appropriate for a candidate whose qualifications differ meaningfully from those listed in the job description. Compensation is also based on seniority, and this range encapsulates multiple levels within the role.
