Position Summary: The State Filings Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of regulatory filings related to commercial insurance policies across multiple states. This role ensures that the company complies with the insurance laws and regulations specific to each state, and helps to ensure the company’s products and rates are approved by state insurance departments. The manager will work closely with internal teams to streamline the filing process, monitor regulatory changes, and manage compliance risk. This is an individual contributor position.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with the Product Development Analyst and business units to assist in maintaining forms, rules and rating plans in compliance with regulatory requirements and meeting the business needs.
- Develop, document, and maintain processes supporting the lifecycle of product development, with a focus on state filings.
- Lead weekly status meetings with Martin and Company keeping current with active and future filings including proprietary forms, rates and rules as well as bureau adoptions for all lines of business.
- Prepare and submit filings to Martin & Company for filing
- Develop and/or coordinate rating methodology, business rules, and rate/rule/form explanatory memoranda that adequately support the business intent of the filing, and secure all necessary internal approvals
- Maintain complete manuals of all rating and forms usage rules.
- Track and respond to product objections.
- Support Commercial Lines filing portal requests by performing triage, analysis, and research on individual requests.
- Ensure all policy forms are uploaded to the internal Forms Library
- Ensure all proprietary rating rules are uploaded and maintained on the MSIG USA intranet.
- Research and analyze industry and competitor data as requested by the business units.
- Analyze regulatory and legislative changes and propose action as needed. Develop and circulate advisory bulletins as appropriate.
- Monitor Reference Organization (ISO) changes and communicate as appropriate to ensure compliance
- Assist in overseeing Product Development mailbox and respond to customer needs in a timely manner.
- Engage all members of our team as we work together to provide excellent service to our business partners. This includes identifying training opportunities, process improvements and efficiencies as well as collaboration on complex issues.
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience.
- 5+ years of strong knowledge relating to the State Filings process for both proprietary and bureau line of business
- Experience in property and casualty products, product management and regulatory compliance a plus.
- Strong analytical, organizational and project management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail. Commitment to project ownership and accuracy.
