PATH's Malaria, Neglected Tropical Diseases program is a leader in the effort to end malaria illnesses and deaths, refines and develops tools and approaches, invests in national programs, and builds data to empower national governments to pursue malaria elimination.   

The Organization for Innovation in Public Health (OIPH, PATH’s local affiliate in Nigeria) seeks a State Coordinator (SC) for the Nigeria project team for the USG-funded Reaching every at-risk community and household with malaria services (PMI REACH Malaria) global project. PMI REACH Malaria aims to provide implementation support services and technical assistance to countries to accelerate progress in comprehensive delivery of facility and community-based malaria services, including malaria case management, prevention of malaria in pregnancy (MiP), seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC), health systems strengthening, data collection and use for service delivery, and other malaria prevention interventions.  

  

The position will report to the PMI REACH Malaria Nigeria Chief of Party. The State Coordinator will provide overall leadership and management of the PMI REACH Malaria project in the state in a manner that strengthens partnerships with the state government and other partners and leads to sustainable malaria control efforts. S/he will spearhead coordination, implementation and reporting for the PMI REACH Malaria project in the state and ensure optimal resource management of the project.  S/he will serve as a member of the Project Management Team and will be responsible for overall project performance in the state of primary responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:    

  • Provide overall leadership and management of the PMI REACH Malaria project supported state malaria program including leading the development of an integrated malaria plan for the State. 

  • Lead operationalization of the PMI REACH Malaria project states’ malaria plan. 

  • Take responsibility for all task requirements for planning and reporting on state-level activities. 

  • Liaise and network with relevant malaria partners and stakeholders in the state to strengthen coordination, integration and resourcing of activities and promotion of a shared vision for malaria elimination in the state. 

  • Interact and communicate on behalf of the PMI REACH Malaria project to key stakeholders in the malaria partnership and with government counterparts at state level 

  • Lead and provide oversight to quality assurance of state level activity implementation 

  • Contribute to the establishment of a system for project monitoring, evaluation and reporting in collaboration with the M&E Manager that includes periodic analyses and review for evidence-based decision-making and program management. 

  • Take responsibility for management of the state malaria budget and all other resources under the direction of the Chief of Party and DFA 

  • Supervise staff and manage staff performance and development. 

  • Provide clear documentation of programmatic achievements as well as required data and keep the Project Senior Management Team informed of state activities on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis and as needed. 

Required Experience & Skills:     

  • Master’s degree in public health, international development, or another health-related field. 

  • Demonstrated a minimum of five years progressive experience in public health and working with development agencies and organizations, government officials, civil society leaders, community leaders, project beneficiaries and project staff. 

  • Strong technical leadership, health program and financial management background. 

  • Ability to negotiate, collaborate and coordinate with a range of stakeholders in a context of complex and shifting priorities. 

  • Demonstrated management capacity in coordinating public health programs at state level with proven ability to oversee multiple activities projects simultaneously in multiple locations. Experience in malaria programming is strongly preferred. 

  • Contribute technical expertise in relevant subnational TWGs and provide input on standard operating procedures and guidelines for project implementations 

  • Excellent organizational, leadership, analytical, supervisory in-service delivery and team-buildings skills. 

  • Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills. 

  • Strong work ethic, resourcefulness, integrity, credibility, and dedication to PATH’s mission.    

  • Professional proficiency in English required.
