Job Summary

ConocoPhillips Canada is seeking a Stakeholder and Indigenous Relations Advisor to support the implementation of ConocoPhillips Canada’s Stakeholder & Indigenous Relations strategy, focusing on building and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous communities and key stakeholders.

Position Overview

Job Summary: 

ConocoPhillips Canada is seeking a Stakeholder and Indigenous Relations Advisor to support the implementation of ConocoPhillips Canada’s Stakeholder & Indigenous Relations strategy, focusing on building and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous communities and key stakeholders. 

Job Description: 
 
The Stakeholder Engagement and Indigenous Relations Advisor collaborates across internal teams to align business objectives with community values and needs. This role is based out of the Calgary office, but travels to Fort McMurray and surrounding communities an average of one week per month.   

 

Responsibilities: 
 

  • Build positive relationships with communities and be a community ambassador for ConocoPhillips. 

  • Support the development of corporate engagement policy and strategy through provision of strategic guidance to the organization regarding engagement with communities. 

  • Liaise with Indigenous communities regarding community investment opportunities. 

  • Lead or support the development of communication tools, presentations, and external information sharing platforms. 

  • Lead relationship agreement implementation activities, including funding stewardship, engagement activities, meeting facilitation and support agreement assurance and corporate social metrics reporting. 

  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to deliver signature programming, community-based and regional program funding requests, and volunteerism programming within the community. 

  • Support the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of Indigenous training & employment strategies/plans. 

  • Present data/information confidently both internally and externally. 

  • Lead logistical coordination and representation at relevant community meetings, events, field visits, etc. 

  • Support organizational learning and development regarding Indigenous culture. 

  • Support local contracting opportunities and meetings. 

  • Work collaboratively with team members to support team goals. 

  • Maintain documentation for relevant stakeholders and support Emergency Response requirements. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in a related discipline. 

  • 5+ years of experience in an external relations related field 

  • 3+ years of experience working in the oil and gas sector 

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license 

  • Proficient with MS Office 

  • Proficient with strategic planning and program management 

  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships and navigate challenging relationship dynamics 

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills 

  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills 

  • Ability to travel 25% of the time, via air travel and driving 40+ minutes.  

  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada on a regular full-time basis without restrictions. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

 

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities 

  • Experience working with all levels of an organization 

  • Demonstrated personal integrity, self-discipline, and ability to build trust and confidence
