Responsibilities
- Testing of products is performed by a different role (Tech Tester). The primary responsibility of the Staff Writer is to use the results from testing to understand how a product performs and where it fits in the market, and to communicate this understanding through various types of work:
- Write and update buying recommendations (example)
- Write and update product reviews (example) and comparisons between products (example)
- Write scripts for videos that review products, compare products, or recommend products to buy (example)
- Interact with our community and answer questions (example)
Personality
- You are a computer tech enthusiast. You are aware of market news, opinions about products and what matters to the community
- You are familiar with the equipment and technology related to gaming peripherals
- You are the type of person that built their own PC, who understands computer components
- You love doing research and comparing products. You typically spend weeks researching before buying something
- You like helping people. The whole purpose of our website is to help people find the best product for them
Qualification/Experience
- Must be able to demonstrate product knowledge about Mice, Keyboards, Laptops or any other product related to Computers
- Strong English communication & writing skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Fast learner
- Previous experience writing product reviews and/or working in retail/sales is a bonus
Entry level position, but other levels can be achieved within two years of employment.
Salary range: $52-$57k
- Less than two years of professional and writing experience
- You are a hobbyist for one or more of the products we review in Computers
- You are familiar with the market of the products we review
- You are interested in learning how to write for different intended audiences and grow into Writer Level II
Note: Further advancement exists beyond this role.
Salary range: $62-$85k
- More than two years of professional writing experience
- Deep interest and technical understanding of product categories like Laptops, Mice, Keyboards, Printers, Networking
- You participate in various hobbyist communities like subreddits and Discord channels related to those product categories
Note: There is also a potential career path in management after Writer II, becoming a Team Lead, which is a different role.
Salary Range: $80-105k
- You are a recognized voice in hobbyist communities related to Computer peripherals and/or components, networking
- You have a deep technical understanding about CPU/GPU architecture, mice sensor performance, networking infrastructure, etc.
- You have written product reviews in the past
- You have leadership/management experience
