Job Title:

Staff Systems Engineer

Reporting To:

Mgr., Staff Engineering

Work Schedule:

Onsite – Buffalo, NY

The Advanced Technology and Engineering Programs (ATEP) team of Moog Space and Defense Group’s Defense sector is looking for a Staff Systems Engineer to work on its efforts in maturing technologies in the autonomous undersea/surface domain.

This exciting opportunity will involve the selection, design and build of all the systems for this vehicle.  It will also involve in-water testing of vehicles and will occasionally require travel to perform vehicle testing.

ATEP’s focus is to accelerate innovation and develop the next generation of capabilities by pursuing the development of new products and taking them to TRL 5/6.  Following that they are transitioned into business units to be matured and scaled. ATEP has a fail-fast culture, building prototype products to develop/test new capabilities.  The focus is on getting hardware into live test scenarios rather than dotting i’s and crossing t’s.

The Staff Systems Engineer is initially responsible for leading the definition, design and development of the propulsion and fin CAS systems as well as integration into the energy, control and ancillary systems.  As the products evolve this will grow into future systems that could include mission planning and autonomy and control.

To be considered for the Staff Systems Engineer role, here’s what you typically need to bring with you:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with minimum 7 years’ relevant technical experience
  • Must have the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance
  • Proficient in motor control algorithms and controller design/selection
  • Proficient in selecting and integrating power supplies and designing power distribution systems
  • Proficient in the integration of a wide variety of systems
  • Ability to swim/work on the water (typically local lakes) necessary

It would be great if you also had:

  • Master of Science degree in Engineering
  • Experience with software programming
  • Hands-on experience with unmanned underwater vehicles or unmanned surface vehicles
  • Proficiency in handling digital data collection and analysis from disparate systems
  • Experience in control system modeling and analysis using MATLAB is a plus

As the Staff Systems Engineer, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Develop top level propulsion and control systems design for autonomous sea vehicles
  • Lead the integration of off-the-shelf parts into first vehicle designs and lead the initial development for the replacement of those with future novel Moog hardware
  • Lead the design of propulsions controls systems for automated and autonomous sea vehicles
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering team for integrating the developed solutions into future products
  • Help drive the team towards quick design cycles
  • Help shape both core technology and culture

How We Care for You:

  • Financial Rewards: great compensation package, bonus opportunities, matching 401k, and the ability to participate in Employee Stock Purchase Plan (select locations), Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts
