Meet The Team:

This person will sit on the Requirements and Analysis team within the Product Safety and Release organization. The Staff Systems Engineer - Autonomy Requirements will analyze hazards and risks, perform safety analyses, derive requirements, and develop the safety case for autonomous driving. 

What you'll do

  • Derive safety-related product requirements based on industry standards, regulations, best practices, industry working groups, and the state-of-the-art for autonomous driving.
  • Coordinate internal and external teams and partners to ensure all safety-related aspects of the autonomy ecosystem are captured, rigorously reviewed, and have complete vertical and horizontal traceability.
  • Ensure all safety-related product requirements are captured and addressed in the Safety Case.
  • Analyze complex problems and apply fundamental engineering principles to derive solutions.
  • Define metrics and contribute to the development of the Safety Case including tracking of Safety Performance Indicators.
  • Lead reviews of safety artifacts applying appropriate level of rigor to review process.
  • Present solutions for safety-related topics to internal safety review boards.
  • Work with internal business partners such as the Systems Engineering team to establish alignment on safety processes and methods. 

What you’ll need to Succeed: 

  • Degree(s) in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field with relevant experience.
    • PHD with 5+ years of experience.
    • Master of Science degree with 7+ years of experience.
    • Bachelor of Science degree and 10+ years of experience. 
  • Systems-level thinking, with underlying engineering knowledge of the complex physical and software systems used in autonomy technologies. 
  • Deep experience with all aspects of requirements management for safety-related systems.
  • Solid understanding of industry standards and best practices related to autonomous technologies.   
  • Demonstrated experience working according to key industry standards such as Functional Safety (ISO 26262) and Safety Of The Intended Functionality (ISO 21448). Experience with safety analyses such as HAZOP, FMEA, STPA, and FTA. 
  • Knowledge in the following disciplines:  software engineering, networking, electrical and mechanical systems, system components, and artificial intelligence/machine learning. 
  • Position requires occasional travel to Torc locations, government locations, etc. Travel is anticipated to be 15% or less. 

Bonus Points! 

  • Certification related to requirements management (e.g. INCOSE, IREB, etc..)
  • Understanding of agile and software development life cycle processes. 
  • Excel in critical thinking to identify problems and problem-solving and analytical thinking to solve complex safety issues. 
  • Understanding and experience applying safety data and statistical methods to develop criteria and thresholds.
