Illumina's BioInsight organization develops and commercializes enterprise grade genomics analysis SW that deploy worldwide in the cloud and on-prem to maximize the value of the data generated from our world-class sequencing instruments. DRAGEN is our flagship bioinformatics platform — the industry standard for fast, accurate secondary analysis used by thousands of labs worldwide. As a Staff Software Technical Product Manager — DRAGEN, you join a high-performing team at a moment of significant growth and transition. You own a defined product area within the DRAGEN portfolio, drive roadmap execution and cross-functional alignment, and help an overextended team keep pace with accelerating demand from clinical, research, and enterprise customers.
Responsibilities
  • Own one or more DRAGEN product areas end-to-end — likely a combination of core pipeline capabilities (variant calling, secondary analysis workflows) and/or SW products or tools crucial for secondary analysis
  • Define and maintain a multi-release roadmap for assigned DRAGEN product areas with clear problem statements, success metrics, and customer outcomes
  • Author product requirement documents, develop business telemetry and drive competitive analysis to identify differentiation and respond to competitive threats
  • Operate with high autonomy in a defined domain; contributes to broader DRAGEN strategy set by the leadership team
  • Partner closely with DRAGEN engineering leadership to shape architecture decisions, manage tradeoffs, and land releases reliably by ensuring field readiness with enablement materials and demo environments to reflect current product capabilities
  • Collaborate with the existing DRAGEN TPMs and field solutions architects to translate customer needs and field issues into product requirements
  • Engages with clinical/regulatory stakeholders on quality and compliance requirements for regulated DRAGEN products
  • Fully responsible in managing all business-related activities like forecasting, tracking, training commercial and sales teams and presenting quarterly product reviews to leadership
  • Work closely with SW Marketing to build visibility and awareness of the products and engage with customers to get feedback and understand usage patterns
  • Support enterprise deals and strategic customer engagements including briefings, RFP responses, technical evaluations, and proof-of-concept design
  • Create and maintain product documentation, release notes, and knowledge base content in collaboration with the technical writing team
  • Contribute to pricing and packaging decisions for DRAGEN products in partnership with the commercial lead

Experience / Education
  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field (bioinformatics, genomics, computer science, molecular biology, biomedical engineering, or related) or equivalent experience; advanced degree preferred
  • Typically 7–10+ years in product management, with 3+ years managing shipped software products at scale preferably in the life sciences, bioinformatics, or health tech space
  • Deep familiarity with NGS based bioinformatics, secondary analysis pipelines or general genomics data processing pipelines strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of the software development lifecycle including design controls for research and regulated medical devices is a plus
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and on-premise/hybrid deployment models
  • Experience with regulated software (ISO 13485, FDA QSR, IVD) is a significant plus.

The estimated base salary range for the Staff Software Technical Product Manager — DRAGEN role based in the United States of America is: $141,600 - $212,400. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. The range reflects long‑term growth in the role. Most candidates are hired between the minimum and middle of the range. Placement depends on experience, skills, location, and internal equity. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
