ROLE OVERVIEW

Seize a unique opportunity to work directly with the VP of Engineering on high-impact strategic initiatives at LifeStance. We are seeking a visionary Staff Software Engineer with deep expertise in systems design and architecture to lead the creation of innovative, scalable solutions that transform patient and clinician experiences. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate diverse technology platforms, including our proprietary systems. This position demands a forward-thinking approach, leveraging analytics, cloud technologies, and scalability within a DevOps-centric culture to drive innovation and technical excellence across the organization.

COMPENSATION: $170,000 - 190,000/annually

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Architectural Leadership: Lead the design and architectural direction of complex, distributed systems, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technical strategy.

  • Technical Vision: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering a deep understanding of our architectural vision and strategy.

  • Code Excellence: Develop high-quality, maintainable, and efficient code that meets the highest standards of software craftsmanship. Demonstrate best practices in coding to produce code that is scalable, robust, and easy to understand, setting a standard for the team.

  • Technical Documentation: Develop and document comprehensive technical specifications, architectural diagrams, and design patterns to guide development efforts.

  • Innovation and Research: Research and evaluate emerging technologies and methodologies to enhance system architecture, scalability, performance, and user experience.

  • Best Practices Enforcement: Establish and enforce best practices, coding standards, and architectural guidelines across engineering teams, promoting a culture of technical excellence.

  • System Development: Architect and implement scalable, high-performance, cloud-native systems for mission-critical applications, ensuring high availability and reliability.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, operations, and executive leadership, to make key architectural decisions and drive projects from conception to completion.

  • System Optimization: Lead system-wide troubleshooting efforts, performance tuning, and optimization to ensure system stability and resilience.

  • Team Mentorship: Mentor and coach other engineers, facilitating knowledge sharing and professional development within the team.

  • DevOps Integration: Champion DevOps practices, integrating development and operations to improve deployment frequency and system reliability.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of professional experience in software development, with a significant focus on systems design and architecture.

  • 5+ years of experience in database architecture and design, including expertise with relational databases, NoSQL databases, Redis, and other storage technologies.

  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and architecting large-scale, highly available, distributed systems from the ground up.

  • In-depth knowledge of cloud architectures, particularly AWS services; AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer) are highly desirable.

  • Strong understanding of system performance optimization, scalability considerations, and cloud-native design patterns.

  • Extensive experience with API design, microservices architecture, and integration patterns.

  • Proficient in quality assurance practices, automated testing strategies, and DevOps methodologies.

  • Proven ability to lead and manage projects across full technology stacks and cross-functional teams, including collaboration with executive leadership.

  • Familiarity with data processing and ETL pipelines; experience with AWS Glue and data modeling is a plus.

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven and objective approach to decision-making.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, strong sense of ownership, and the ability to drive initiatives across multiple teams.

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States.
